Just keep an eye out for any paint damage around the windscreen aperture Tim, whoever carries out the repair will have to use a wire to cut out the damaged screen. This should be a two man job so be suspicious if only one man turns up.

Thanks TB, when I spoke to the guy at the local Autoglass depot he said that there wasn't just a heated/rain sensing screen but there were other "trim" bits he had to get, so I assume they have done RRS/D3/FFRR before. I'm taking the car into the depot as they asked if the car could be garaged if it rains.......................... I can get the bonnet through the up and over door but there isn't enough room to work around the car so it's off to the workshop to have the job done.

You don't need to be smart to work out that steam can be cleared by the heater elements as well as ice! It exactly whats been posted over on FL2 to check the elements after some had windows replaced |

That chip looks exactly like the one I got on my 535 before I chopped it in.... they did attempt to repair it, but couldn't manage in the end. Some chips simply can't be repaired very well. It's no odds to them whether or not it's a new windscreen or not....

I'm concerned that it is still winter and we can get heavy frosts up here until late May. I don't want to have a weak spot on the front screen (not that worried about the heated section, but putting the heater on puts more stress onto an already weak screen) that could just go bang when I am driving at speed, that is the reason why I have said no to a repair. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Anyway S LRI / Royal and Sun Alliance can well afford to pay up for a whole new screen - I haven't had an insurance claim in 22 years, so they have taken enough profit out of me! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Well, in the end I settled for the repair .................................... now I have what looks like a tiny permanent finger print in the lower screen. The techs persuaded me that the car is so new and the chip so small that it risks too many problems with leaks and damage to the car using the cheesewire method for taking out the old screen that it is better to have the screen repaired than replaced.......................... the repair has a long warranty so if there is a problem then I will take it straight back and get the full replacement done. Was impressed with their workshop - probably as clean as a hospital operating theatre - spotless, brilliant white and a sealed floor. Long queue of folks waiting for replacement screens though - I had an appointment and was seen to straight away. They had the new screen there along with a bag of trim bits all ready to fit. Have yet to test the screen elements. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hows the repair holding out? The weather over the last couple of days should've been enough to put it to the test!! Speed Limits! not where I live!

Steve the weather here has been beautiful - sunny clear days and not so cold (-1, -2) at night so haven't even needed to use the screen heater. I'm expecting to need my skis in Hamburg next week though! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
