Chances are the dealer will get Autoglass in to do it anyway. I suppose it doesn't matter if your insurance is covering it... either way you'll pay a windscreen excess I presume?

Really? I'd be surprised if that was the case... fact remains, if it's an insurance claim then it doesn't really matter.

Land Rover Insurance told me Autoglass or Land Rover Dealer........................ dealer has none in stock until next week! Just waiting for a call from Autoglass, gawd their callcentre is slow to answer phones!
Yes £50 windscreen excess.......................... my insurance expires on the 24th so I'm getting the premium back I suppose! Mr. Green Mr. Green
The girl at the call centre reckons it could be repairable - I said that I want a whole new screen as the chip and crack is right in my line of sight! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I presume with the heating elements in the windscreen you'll get Genuine LR windscreen

In a FL1 i had somebody smashed the side window, Autoglass replaced it, and it wobbled and made noises, they had to swap it for a Genuine LR part as there aftermarket glass was slightly thinner

If they say its repairable and its in the line of vision, you still could fail its MOT if they repair it

If you go anywhere other than your insurers approved repairer you would have to pay in full and the excess will go up to something like £125. Thumbs Up

Tim, Get it replaced.
If you don't you won't know if the heated element is damaged until you get a frosty day and by that time it may be months down the line. My father in-law had to get his replaced when this happened as the centre part of the element no longer worked and he ended up with a wide line of frost/ice being left down the middle of the screen on his FL2. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Tim, insist on a genuine LR screen as the screen is quite an important part of the shell's rigidity. Also, if the crack are more than a couple of mm then it won't be repairable.

Sorry to hear your news! Crying or Very sad

The frost check will be tonight! We had -5C here last night and it forecast to be similar tonight.....................
The chip is tiny, smaller than a drawing pin head but even though it doesn't go right through I can see where the laminations have taken the brunt around the chip. If we have many frosty nights here it could just burst anyway.
I'm still waiting for Autoglass to call back with an appointment - I assume that because they are the Land Rover approved windscreen replacers and LR Insurance say that repairs will always be made with genuine LR parts, then I get genuine parts.......................... am I being a bit naive? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Update - Autoglass will have a new windscreen with rain sensor/heating elements and Pilkington optikool for me on Wednesday lunchtime............................... the screen will be from Pilkington and to the right BS number BUT it will not have the LR logo on it....................... we'll see how it goes - if it isn't right then it can go back for a genuine one if necessary.

Here it is from the outside

and from the inside

It is a bit lower than I originally thought. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

Tim, I had a replacement screen in one of my Freelanders a few years back. Like yourself I initially wanted Land Rover to carry out the repair rather than some cowboy windscreen replacement company. When I inquired at the local stealers I was told that they always get Autoglass to replace the glass anyway. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.
