Silverstone F1

Wifey wants to go to Silverstone this year for the F1, however we've never been before so not sure which tickets/location etc is best

Going to get the three day tickets, but probably only go on the Sat & Sun

Luffield A, Woodcote or Club Silverstone are the options we have (wifey wants a covered stand in case it rains)

Any recommendations?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Kaine

Yes, don't bother.

I used to get taken there every year on corporate hospitality. I was bad enough when it was free, I couldn't ever imagine paying to go there.

Take her to Goodwood or Le Mans, you'll both enjoy it much more.

Paul,

Thanks for your reply - we're aware of the fact its probably the worst GP to attend, however swmbo wants to go so we're going. I'm sure it will be an good experience for a first time seeing F1 cars in the flesh

I guess if you've never been to a Grand Prix before, it's worth seeing.
I used to go when they ran V10 engines and we always had grandstand seat at the very start of the pit straight and the noise would come into the grandstand and also get bounced down off the roof and the volume was literally painful. you couldn't hear the person right next to you even if they shouted in your ear.
This was also before the new road was built and no matter how early you went, you would have to queue for hours and hours to get in and twice as long to get out again. On one occasion, it took us 6 hours to get off the Silverstone site.
I hope it's much better now for your sake.
Also, take PLENTY of money, everything is rip-off prices.

I've been a couple of times, but again not for a long time. I remember going up on the Sat evening, queuing for ages to get into the site then having to queue again when they opened at 4am, rushing in with 1000s of others to find a decent spot on the slopes at one of the bends. It was blistering hot and I got burnt to a cinder because I forgot to take any sun cream Embarassed

I was also going to mention the noise too.... the engines were deafening, not sure what they're like now.

It's silly price to get in now I think - it was only £40 for race day tickets when I was going (early 90s). Fair to say it's best to watch it on TV, but I guess you realise that. If you've not been to an F1 race before then at least you will have ticked it off and not have to do it again.

Oh... and I was at Silverstone not long ago for a Caterham day and access to the site is now infinitely better given the new roads in.

Don't bother with Silverstone - It's a poor F1 spectacle - Brands Hatch was Sooooo much better - Best race I've ever been to was Spa in Belgium - The tickets are reasonably priced and travel is a doddle - especialy for folks down south.

Go to Spa without a doubt, think you can do it via eurostar now as well. Speed Limits! not where I live!

Hi Kaine,
I took a party of my suppliers to Club Silverstone last year and wouldn't ever do it again.
There is no seperate VIP parking so you end parked in a muddy field.
No seperate entrance so we ended queing with everyone else.
Once in the compond it's quite swish with a food hall with all different types of reasonable quality and price, however the seating space to eat it is quite limited I would guess at about 30% of the stand capacity so often we ended up sat on the grass to eat.
The stand is OK but the view of the track is very limited as you can only see 1 chicane which is quite boring with little in the way of action.
Most of the time we spent at Luffield so if I was contemplating going again(which I'm not) that's where I would go as you can see several different bends and to be honest the food is just as good and far cheaper.
We drove in for practise and got stuck in the mud so on race day opted to do the park and ride from Northampton which is quite well organised.

We went to the Hungaroring a couple of years ago and it is light years ahead of the Silverstone experience, the parking and organisation is better, food is superb,we had Gold Grandstand tickets which give you uninterupted views of the pits and start/finish line.Hotels are dirt cheap and wonderful.
My next trip will be to Monaco after doing a recce last summer,we drove the GP circuit and had lunch at Cafe Paris now that really was amazing.
