England 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Abysmal fuel consumption since service.

Had the RRS in for a service a few weeks back. Immeadiately noticed the fuel economy had changed quite significantly. Put it down to maybe the diesel in the tank at the time, poor traffic conditions, etc., etc.. Well a couple of tankfuls later it's still well down on where it should be. By this this I mean I'm getting 50-60 miles less on a tank than before. Doing the same driving as before, so it's not that. Any ideas what they could have screwed up at service time?? HSE TD6 (Java Black/Ivory)

I can see that I am not the only one with that kind of problem. A few weeks ago I also took my car for a service (at that time my RRS was only 1 month old 3000km) because I had a problem-once with switching on the engine first thing in the morning so they checked the battery and alternator but both were ok. But as I could see they for sure disconnected the battery from the car/computer because when I picked up my car I had to set the time on the clock. After that service the car is using approx.10%-12% more fuel and also I have a feeling that it is maybe less "lively". Is that possible? 2008 RRS TDV8 HSE, Java black, Alpaca,.....

Interesting Confused

Did you get a breakdown of the work they did when they had it in for the service? I presume you've raised it with them?

It was just a standard 2 yr, 30k service, they didn't do anything other than the standard.

I've mentioned it to them & said I'd run a couple of tankfulls through & see if it settled down. I can only summise they've updated the engine management system & somethings not right. HSE TD6 (Java Black/Ivory)

wheel balancing weights rubbing on brake hose!

I'm amazed that you say this as I have just had my car returned from the dealer after a breakdown (more on that later) and a 2 year 30k service. My fuel consumption seems down since I got it back; although has never been good at about 24 average. I thought that it seemed less lively since the service too!

About the break-down. I stopped at the newspaper shop on the way to work and got back into the car to continue, turning on the ignition I got a dash full of amber alarms ! HDC system failure, park brake system failure, Brake Assist system failure, Anti-Locking brake system failure and a few others I can't remember (6 in total)!

I called LR Assist (who were fantastic) Technician there in under an hour. Ran some tests with a laptop connected and couldn't reset the problem - hardware fault! It was recovered to the dealer who called me later to advise that the wheel balancing weights on the inside of the off side front wheel had been rubbing on the brake hose and anti-locking brake sensor. GTR was checked and it was found that LR had issued a bulletin on this where the weights used in manufacture were too large and could cause this problem. If this is true why wasn't each and every one us affected contacted by LR to have the cars checked? or did they just leave us to break down to find out about it?

Just not good enough! It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!

I miss my old RRS "bucket" rattling around but it just had to go!

Did they adjust or do anything with the park brake or indeed the normal brakes during the service? After driving for a while without using brakes much, it might be wise to just feel the brake discs / park brake drums to see if they are getting hot, ie. meaning brake pads or shoes are dragging or sticking. This would obviously cause worse than normal fuel consumption. RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Well I went in to see them end of last week. The categorically stated they had not touched the ECU during the service.

However following on from what Texstar stated I did have new pads fitted all round. I suspect that what you described may be the case as the economy is now starting to improve again, which may be consistent with the pads sticking a bit at 1st. HSE TD6 (Java Black/Ivory)
