2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
trying to understand fbh behaviour

hi folks,

i asked on an earlier post about smoke coming out of the front of my RRS and was told it was from the fbh.

What I'd like to know is how much smoke should come out typically? I get loads wafting across the the car from left (where the unit sits) to right and it lasts for quite a while.

The fbh doesn't activate when i immediately start the car, but a few miles down the road when it's already warming up. To be honest it's a bit embarrassing when I'm stuck in traffic.

Is there anything i can do to stop the unit from activating, e.g. not turn on the interior heating until the engine has warmed up? Could the unit be faulty?

Thanks for your help.

It's all normal - the FBH will kick in when the outside temperature hits 3 degrees - noting you can do or would want to do to stop it. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

mines an oil burner and its never smoked from the pre heater

i would of thought if its getting bad enough to be embarrassing at the lights then there must be a probem with the fueling to the unit ie its getting too much and is burning it off somehow

The FBH has quite a number of working parts and anything could have gone wrong.

I hope this will help you understand its behaviour...

Why would that be relevant do you think? AFAIK the FBH has its own fuel supply including fuel line and pump so couldn´t be influenced by any remap??? Cheers

wasnt sure if it had its own fuel supply or not to be honest

i am having mine re-mapped on wednesday so was going to ask the question

If the fbh has its own fuel supply then it shouldnt make a difference 16 model year yulong white autobiography

thanks for the PDF Bobby.

Looking at the diagram any emiisions from the fbh should travel down the exhaust and come out of the bottom of the car. This would probably help to dissipate some of the smoke coming out.

I'm getting a large vloume of smoke coming out of the top so there must be a gap somewhere in the exhaust assembly.

what a pain, 2 days with the car and i'm already going to have to book it in.

Anywho, thanks for all the replies.

Certainly sounds like somethings not right. Mine is coming on every morning at the moment - Joys of living in North Scotland! But I get very little smoke and as you say it comes out from under the car. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

It vents into the near side front wheel arch, so any smoke will come out from under the front left wing.

Mine doesn't smoke, but you can smell very mild diesel fumes outside the car and occasionally inside the car soon after start up.

Not quite true VA, if the cars on reserve fuel then this does not activate.
