Evening all!

Thought I would drag this thread kicking and screaming back 'on topic'!

A radical decision has been made in the ST household Shocked . The next car will not be a RRS; it will hopefully be a FFRR TDV8 or even a D3.

I can already here the abuse building! The bottom line is that after driving both the RRS and the D3 at the weekend on extended test drives we agreed the sport wasn't the right decision for us - put simply, it was too similar a proposition to our current car (535d) - literally speaking they are obviously very different cars however when we looked at the reasons for buying the sport we realised we would be buying with the same objectives as we bought the 535d - passenger space and pace; in other words, the point of difference between the two cars (for us at least I hasten to add!) was non existent in terms of our expectations from each vehicle. The only significant difference in our eyes is that the 535d is a damn site quicker whilst being easily as comfortable - but the bottom line is they are both fast point to point exec express's (accepting all the added benefits of the RRS such as driving position and off raod capability etc etc)

Now, the D3 and FFRR are completely different offerings (again, for our needs), the D3 represents a different image and with the standard HSE setup it offers a more relaxed, softer and quieter drive than the sport and more importantly for a lot less money - big drawback - the engine, the TDV6 in D3 guise doesn't like cruising much past 85 / 90mph, having said this, the car feels lighter and more open - it feels more like a 4x4!

Leading nicely onto the FFRR, we didn't drive the FFRR however we did sit in the new Vogue in the show room for long enough!! We decided that the FFRR was a massive departure from what we have, and importantly for us, it had all of the benefits of the D3 (airey space) but with the RR quality feel combined with the TDV8 motor. If the drive is as relaxed as the D3 then I think the decision has been made.

We are heading back for a test in the FFRR TDV8 in a weeks time.

Foot note - the TDV8 sport is a fantastic alternative to all the other fast top end exec saloons however when you are already in one of said cars, for me, there isn't enough of a point of difference to justify the swap, that is why the RR is the right car for us (well, for today at least Very Happy )

ST Currently: Carbon Black 535d
RIP: RRSTDV6 HSE & DISCO3 HSE

You hit the nail on the head ST, the interior.

A massive difference between RRS and FFRR.

Also, I don't think the interior space on RRS is all that good considering the size of the car, especially the boot.

On that subject, the split tailgate on FFRR is a thing of greatness!

Don't get me wrong, still love our Sport as much as the day we got it but i'm getting old now (Well, compared to Jay anyway!).

But seriously, i'm 33 but don't have an issue with the FFRR being an old mans car as one of the first things i'll do when we get ours is put a set of 22" Overfinc Tigers on it! Thumbs Up Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

What would you expect, this is a RRS forum, Rolling Eyes

If i would do this poll on RangeRovers.net, then it would be 100% FFRR Wink

Maybe there is an element of favouritism, but if had to choose to own one of them it would be the RRS. FFRR is a lovely motor though Thumbs Up
