I'm Back

Went in at 11.30 on Tuesday - and by 12.30 - only 1hr later I was back in the car on the way home Absolutely amasing. No pain at all, this really was kids stuff. Even back at home later that day when I expected things to get a little worse before they got better - there was still no pain. It does take time [ 3 to 4 or longer days ] to see your eyesight settle down. I went back yesterday as part of the follow up treatment to have a clear contact lens removed that is placed on your eye to help protect the surgery done. Yesterdays visit took 20mins and the surgeon inspects your eyes again - All is WELL

At op, 11.30 - arrive fill out disclaimer and hand over big fat cheque . Go through to meet surgeon & discuss procedure etc. He then put some drops in my eyes & I return to the waiting room for 10mins. Then its off to theatre................. put some bin liner things on my shoes & lie down on the operating BED. Surgeon then positions you correctly & ask you to look up into device and stair at a little green light ( right eye first ), he the puts some more drops in, followed by a device that keeps your eyelids wide open - this does not hurt at all. Then amazingly you still see him swabbing your eye - it then goes BLANK for a second when he obviously slices your cornea ( no pain ) you now seeing again and next up is the LASER....... weird, no pain only the slight smell of burning.All done and a soft clear contact lens is then placed over your eye & cleaned up. OK ..... next eye.... its that quick. All in all approx 10 mins if that in theatre. Back into waiting room for 10 mins ( I walked out of theatre eyes open & just a bit blurry ) they then ask you to sit for 10 mins with eyes shut. Then back into pre op room meet optomerist who again checks your eyes - all is well and go home. You have some drops to put in your eyes , 1 drop each eye on the hour. At night time I had a pair of perspex covers to shield my eyes in case I rubbed them in my sleep ( precautionary ). No problems - good night sleep, showered and off to Solihull again for follow up appointment at 10.00am. Here they remove the clear contact lens and check all is ok. As the last few days have een very sunny they reccommend you bring non prescription sunglasses with you ( very wise ).

On Tuesday night I was able to sit and watch TV - no problems. Things do seem a little hazy around the edges still - but this is getting better by the minute, it is normal and caused by the fact your eyes are swollen/bruised & thus still distorting the shape of your eye/vision.

My next appointment for follow up treatment is next Wednesday 8th March.

Good news MDP! Sounds like it was very simple and straightforward. Did you move from glasses or contacts? It must be a whole new experience being able to see properly without any help from anything else.... How long do they say that this fix stays effective for? I assume your eyes continue to age like they normally would....

Hi shmoogle, I used to wear glasses as not able to get on with contact lenses due to the severity of my astigmatism. This has all been rectified through the laser treatment now & my glasses donated to science

Everyones eyes worsen with age, esp for reading & it is this issue that you are warned about for future reference. So I guess I may possibly need glasses just for reading in the future - at some point in time ????????

But for now - its a whole new world ( queue the music )

Glad to hear everything went ok MDP! Thanks for the write up, will definitely use this in the future if i ever need glasses.. (how much does it cost if you don't mind me asking?)
and before you say it VA, i definitely can see perfectly right now, and you're wrong my friend, the RS4 is the way to go..

Your looking at approx £990 an eye. But I secured £300off ( post xmas sale I presume if booked before end feb) so for me I paid £840 per eye. I would have also been in need of a new prescription for my glasses & these cost me £300 last time, so mentally I have knocked this off the bill as well , so the way I look at it its cost me £690 an eye - A BARGAIN

Whoa.. im in the wrong profession, my parents actually told me to become an optician! oh if i had listened then! So they charged you £800 an eye, and took them about an hour in all. Thats good money if you can get it!

I wish I'd had the courage or introductin/reccomendation in this case from a friend at the rugby club, to have done this years ago, but I guess it was made easier due to the fact technology has moved on & I was shocked at how easy/quick/painless & cheap it all was.
