I have the 50 inch plasma, the blu-ray player now I want better sound but Mrs VA does not want any wires! Are the wireless cinema systems out there rubbish? If not which is the best at a reasonable price?

The only one I'd consider is the new Gefen Wireless HDMI unit, although its pretty expensive - I've been waiting for this unit to be launched now for over 18 months

Not the best looking bit of kit but the price seems ok. I'm not overly worried about the pure acoustic quality of a system more worried about the thing actually working and the looks. Small black speakers are good! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Wireless surround sound systems never work properly in my experience - the only decent wireless audio I've installed are pure stereo speakers (Canton & B&O)

how about using a Yamaha YSP Projection speaker? Its not wireless, however does a good reproduction of surround sound in the right room

I run a YSP-1100 with my Pana 42 - although to get the best from it for Home Cinema you will need a Sub (the Yamaha YST Sub is not bad)

yep, goes just under your TV

price is approx £999 for the latest YSP-40D, with the sub around £100 - from memory (cant get access to supplier prices today)

The only point i would raise is they do fall over in large rooms (open plan etc) as they need four walls to get the reflection right so as to achieve the rear surround effect

btw, it doesn't have to go right under your tv - it can go lower - this is handy to hide the cable that needs to go from the YSP to the Sub

Dom i'v heard to things about them Yamaha's but have you guy's looked at all your wired option there's a lot of smart stuff out there!

never tried them - tbh the only 5.1 wireless system I've ever played with, I mean configured , was an old Pioneer 5.1 system with a single wireless rear speaker - nice idea, poor performance imo - Pioneer dropped it in 2005 ish and never replaced it with anything

The only wireless speakers I would recommend are the Canton CD3500 speakers

Combine 2 pairs of these with a 5.1 processor and a dedicated centre and sub woofer and you would have a very good wireless speaker system - and a much lighter wallet

Our TV came with a set of wireless rear speakers for it's fake surround sound mode.... aside from the fact that fake surround sound is rubbish anyway, the wireless transmission often fell out so we removed them after a while.

I'm not one for having loads of wires on show. So you can't see them in my system which consists of AE front speakers bi-amped, centre MK speaker, Rel Sub and a pair of tiny rear MK speakers mounted on the back wall.
All hard wired. Good thing about MK speakers is that they offer a selection of colours and sizes so that you can blend them with your decor so that you hardly notice them. Not cheap but they worked for my wife.

The solution is finding a good HiFi shop and get their fitters to do a discreet job. My rear speakers are hard wired with very small cables that are very discreet. Rear speakers don't need hosepipe cables
In my case most of the cabling is under the carpet. But you can get replacement skirting boards designed to carry the cables.

If you want good sound then wireless is not the solution as you will be disappointed.

You could also consider putting your rear speakers in the ceiling or built into the walls. TDV6 - gone

Which MK speakers do you have? We had some Xenon units in before xmas, paired up with a Triad Bronze PowerSub - absolutely phenonemal !!!!

We are just completing a project using Triad Silver speakers and 2xSunfire Subrosa subs - this system is around 15x the cost of the MK system however in a small environment the Xenon system was just as good (if not better )

the best 2k system you can buy imho

MK K7 centre speaker and pair of MK Surround 55 Tripole rears. Pair of AE 120 floor standers bi-amp'd, which I already had and wanted to utilise. Rel Stampede woofer.
