05 Sat Nav Upgrade...

FYI...

I have an 05 RRS that I just stuck the latest European Sat Nav disc into...

Now, I already had the Nav buttons on the move update, but the new disc updated....

1) Maps (obviously)
2) After a 2 minute firmware upgrade
- A GPS indicator on the screen (i.e. when GPS is not available that is indicated)
- Main roads are now red....
3) I was in a car park today (so no gps) but the screen rotated when I turned in the car park. Is it connected to the wheels and measure angles / speed etc?

OK. So no bombshells, but cool nontheless... 2022 P440e AB

normaly an inbuilt SatNav system will have a gyroscope and take speed pulses from the ABS sensors, some even have accelerometers in them. I was in the underground car park in Achen on boxingday and it gave positional info even tho there could be no signal 3 floors underground.
TomTom are advertising their latest GPS systems having gyroscopes and accelerometers to be able to still give possition when going through tunnels etc. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Paul it also sounds like you may have "head up" mode selected - this is where the direction you are travelling is pointing to the top of the screen. The other mode is "North up" and although you may never have noticed it the position indicator acts as the compass and changes direction - you can switch from one to the other in the settings. Personally I prefer "heading up" mode as the map appears on the screen looking the same as the road layout through the front windscreen. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Josh in the normal navigation screen just below the TMC icon you should have a small compass icon. This is a "soft" key and if you press it the map orientation will change between vehicle heading up and north up. See page 24 of the Navigation System manual.
This also changes the compass view in the 4x4 Info screen so that in north up mode the North of the compass stays pointing to the top of the screen and the "needle" will rotate to indicate direction, in heading up mode the the car icon stays pointing up the screen and the compass rotates around it............................... not a very useful function that one unless you want to take bearings! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Jaymann, the old DVD works AOK. You might be interested to know that the firmware does not seem to be downgraded... You just stick in the old dvd and it works straightaway. Unlike when the new one went in, it took a couple of minutes to update itself... 2022 P440e AB
