Switzerland 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Smoke is coming out sometimes...

...I'm new here on the board, and I'm a new range rover sports owner as well.

the last two months I had lot of fun with my my tdv6 stormer. but yesterday during going to the gas station, I guy told me, that he saw some smoke coming from under the car.
I quick checked an there was no smoke at all.
After returning to my garage and parking and some reving and opening the hood, nothing happend. So I left fore some minutes to my appartement. - Then I checked again, and after switching on the engine, there was really some smoke coming out of the front, next to the right fog light. Well just some littel bit of smoke and burned smell. So I just went for a quick test drive and nothing happend any more, no smoke was coming out. I checked the oil, and observed the engine runing with an open hood. But again nothing happend, no source of smoke.
So today I drove around the whole day, again no smoke at all. Today evening, my girlfriend went to the parking place, and when she started the car, some little smoke appeard again.
Whats wrong with the car. Did everyone ever heard of that problem? - Could it be, because I was in the Swiss Mountains and the car stood outside two nights while the temperatures went down to below -15 degrees celsius?

Can someone help, or has an idea??

greets michael Big Cry

Sport.Stormer, welcome to the forum and panic not - sounds like it is the Fuel Burning Heater exhaust, come out under the front LHS - when the air temperature drops below 5C then a Fuel Burning Heater automatically cuts in to aid engine warm up and reduce emissions. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

ok sounds interesting and could it relly be. It just appears when the car stood for hours and at the moment in Zurich the temperature is always below 2degrees celsius.

But why exactly does it smoke? I mean, is there diesel burning or something?

sounds like it's working like an independent vehicle heater??

Yes, there is a DIESEL powered heater in the front Right hand corner of the engine bay, just behind the headlight and the reservoirs - if you open the bonnet and have a look you will see it plainly. ok thanks a lot...I'm really happy, that it is nothing more than just this heating.

so for this reason, I just monitor what is going on under the hood.

But I definitely don't go to the dealer...

thanks guys, michael Thumbs Up

I just wonder, today I had really a lot of smoke again. People around me in the city asked, if something is wrong with the car. It can't be the case, that you have a luxury and stylish range rover and it smokes during wintertime so bad??

Your really sure, that this heater has so much to smoke? looks and sounds ridicolous....

Open the bonnet and look on your right just behind the headlight, there is an exhaust pointing down, if this is where the smoke is cominig from it's fine. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

well you guys were right. I went to the local dealer today and he told me, that it's only this heating you mentioned.
He checked also everything for a second, and I so do not have to be worried about. (Told me also, that they had clients coming back telling that they thought the first time, that their car is on fire!!)

But it's not cool at all, if you just started driving and you're standing in a rush houre and your car is smoking, so that it looks like it burns underneath...

well probably I have to live with it !!??

You didn't believe us??? Land Rover dealers must dread the first cold snap when new owners (who maybe didn't read that section of the owners manual Embarassed Embarassed ) phone in great numbers to ask why their pride and joy appears to be on fire - I'll admit that the 1st time I experienced it on my Freelander TD4 I was straight on the phone to the dealer as well - that was 7 years ago now. Been there, got the T shirt! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
