Trouble is - when i plug the ipod cable in, the clicking INCREASES in volume

It's the cars way of punishing you

Really though mate - looks like you'll be on your way to friendly neighbourhood dealer to have it checked. Some wiring issue is causing it to happen I think and I doubt there's much user-serviceable stuff you could do to remedy it.

Yeah, its in next week for squeeky gear change, new rear discs and this clicking.

Then it will be in again for a few more days to have the rear screen replaced and tinted.

Then, hopefully, maybe, finally, it will be just annual trips from here on in.

Even taken to leaving my spare keys with the dealer so they can pick it up as when issues arise!
