I have Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow on my TDv8. These tyres are superb and 100% better than the Conti's in all driving condition. They grip wet, dry or icey roads in a way that the Conti never does and are very good on grass or mud. They feel assured, safe, sporty and they make no more noise than the Conti.

IMHO the Conti's are good for absolutely nothing and indeed they actually run the risk of seriously embarrassing the RRS as with Conti's fitted you are quite likely to find yourself with less grip on snow, grass or mud than virtually anything else on the road.  RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Sorry Smarticus, have to disagree with you there. The scorpions are definitely noisier in the wet and more susceptible to "roll" than the continentals. You must also remember that due to the composite from which tyres are made, the conti will give you better braking distances in both the wet and dry as long as the temperature is above 7 deg c.

The contis are useless in snow (no suprise there) but the scorpions are far inferior during the summer on roads, regardless of the conditions..

My next summer tyres are going to be Hankook st RH06 Ventus.

Did over 600 miles to Covemtry and back today in very wet weather and warm temperatures (13 degrees c) and the Pirelli's performed faultlessly. But I am sure you would be right in 20 degree plus temperatures. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Roll, is basically the flexing of the sidewall of the tyre. The lower the profile of the tyre, the less roll you get. The tread on the scorpions is deeper and it is made of a composite that stays soft in cold temperatures. The problem is that when the temperature gets warmer, the tyre rolls a little more than a summer tyre as the summer tyre composite does not get so soft.
