Definative tyre decision folks

I know this subject has been covered before but I would like a definate YES please to any technical issues that may arrise from changing my tyres from the standard Conti`s to a wider tyre maybe still Contis so up to 295`s from 275`s I think.
Were talking 20" wheels.
I`m looking for more rim protection really so can anyone ecommend maybe a different make of tyre say a Michelin maybe the same 275 width but that have a bit more rim protection.
I know there is an issue with changing the yre size and the Nav not being callibrated and stuff??
What about if I was involved in an accident for example still insured??
Its so easy to mark the rims!!! Big Cry
Cheers guys and I await your comments with intrigue. Mr. Green Blick with blick windows, big wheels, tow bar for nickin, side steps for the tart, DVD screens for on the go porn, 22" Stormers black and polished... as a matter of fact just about every box ticked.....if I`m going down I`m going down BIG time. LR also fit Pirelli Scorpions in a 20" to the TDv8, but they still have a very low profile so the wheel scuffing problem is still there. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Birdy, LR fit Pirellis as well as Contis, to the TDv8 and I have them on my new one. But they are still very low profile so that doesn't help you much, I think you will be struggling to find a 20" tyre/wheel combo with a higher profile................... even 19" are difficult to find aas you've found out. There are plenty of 18" available with All Terrain tyres whioch have higher sidewalls, but they don't look so glamorous! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi BIRDY

I would urge caution on the increased tyre size !!

When I put the Stormers on “Rupert” I went with a 295/45 tyre instead of the 275/40 as fitted by Land Rover for rim protection reasons, but had serious clearance issues !!

I had to take the 295/45’s off after a day as they were rubbing on the suspension & changed to the 275/40’s

You can read the saga as it unfolded in this thread…….

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic7160.html?highlight=

……..& also have a look at the pictures in my gallery in the album titled “Stormers” to see the clearance issues I encountered.

It is worth noting that I have OEM LR rims & there seems to be a consensus out there that third party rims may have a greater offset, which allows the wider/higher tyre clear the suspension.

But then you are really getting into that grey area of voiding your insurance, by fitting after market parts. Which is why I am just as happy to have the OEM rims fitted with the exact tyre spec as laid out by Land Rover.

My advice is do your research carefully, & err on the side of caution.

Last advice I got on this forum was if one goes to 295's they should be on all 4 wheels. 2022 P440e AB

Thanks Rupert everything I need other than knowing whether or not there is a standard size tyre available with better rim protection??

Birdy, you can buy a 20" Goodyear Eagle in 275/45 as opposed to 40, but that will change the rolling radius of the tyre... therefore your speedo/odo, mpg will all skew.

It's not a question that has an easy answer really. If you can get a definitive answer out of LR then you can sue them when your car blows up.... Wink

All I want to know really is has anyone come accross another brand that has better rim protection??
I`d like to put 295`s on but am worried about any issues that arrise 275`s are wide enough.
On ebay there are quite a few wheels for sale with 295`s fitted so if there are rubbing issues and rolling radius issues it would be good to know.
i also see that Khan and a few others fit 295`s?? Blick with blick windows, big wheels, tow bar for nickin, side steps for the tart, DVD screens for on the go porn, 22" Stormers black and polished... as a matter of fact just about every box ticked.....if I`m going down I`m going down BIG time.
