Biofuels???

Has anybody been using biofuel their RRSport or D3? Is it a hassle and do you have to use something like 4 tanks of ordinary fuel to every 1 of biofuel? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Think the manual specifically says don't, doesn't it? Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I was told by my dealer that the tdv6 won't run on biofuel. Which I think is a hell of an oversight on such a modern engine

I think the problem is the injectors.

Our injectors (tdv6 and tdv8) are very fine tolerance piezo injectors (read expensive).

The biodiesel molecule size is bigger than dino diesel giving either a clog or a wear situation.

Either way it'l be expensive.

I think there was a thread in disco 3 forum about it........

Last resort - I got out the owners manual which is the 2007 version!

Page 166 of the UK manual states Alternative Fuels (this is in the section for petrol engined cars BTW)
Up to 10% ethanol in fuel can be used, the car is not equipped to deal with more than 10% Ethanol mixtures.

Page 167 in the diesel fuel section - "Maximum allowable Biodiesel mix is 5%, meeting EN590 specification"

So that's better than it used to be - "Do not use biofuels in Land Rover Vehicles"!

I will not be trying it anyway. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Fuelled up THE BEAST this afternoon, I thought the village garage (a Thames station) was expensive at £1.059ppl but the BP filling station at Bannockburn and about 1/2 mile off the motorway is £1.069ppl, yet I fuelled up at the Shell station 1 miles closer to town from them for £1.019ppl. Crazy! The only other difference is that at the BP Station you get Nectar points............... but at 5ppl each they are mighty expensive points! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Not tried it yet, but I intend running the Defender on veg oil. I can get 100litres/week for free Laughing , but have to filter and clean it Crying or Very sad . Going to try up to 50:50 mix in the Tdi. Might have to fit another small tank for diesel to start and stop engine. Even so, savings should be pretty good Very Happy .
RRSport is petrol, so still face hefty fuel bills for that Sad . Even tho' I work for ExxonMobil, I don't get any staff discount!!! Big Cry

You've just missed out on a Disco1 200Tdi that was being sold near here. It had been fully converted to run on veg oil, it even had a heat exchanger plumbed up to a special tank in the boot for preheating the cooking oil. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I'm sure there is a company in Cranfield, Beds selling a veg oil convertor type tank/machine to make the veg oil good for running your car on. TDV6 - gone
