TYRES for 20" SUPERCHARGED 275/40/R20

I have the Continental Tyres fitted to my Supercharged and they appear to be wearing out quite quickly Sad I have only covered 4000miles so far. I have also read conflicting stories/reports/info with ref to handling of the Supercharged on various tyres. So can we have some idea and feedback from all the 20"rim guys and esp those with S'chrgd..............

A. What tyre make do you have?

B. Ride comfort - tyre wear - speed rating etc

C. Cost to replace/buy

From what I can gather there is limited choice.

Hankook Ventus ST RH06 275/40 R20 106 (W speed rated ) XL ( made in Korea )

MICHELIN 4X4 DIAMARIS N0 275/40 R20 Load : 106 Speed : Y

Pirelli P Zero Rosso 275/40 R20 106 Y

TOYO PROXES S/T 275/40 R20 Load: 102 only Speed: (W rated again )

Dunlop SP Sport 9000 275/40 R20 106 Y

and the Continental of course!

For the supercharged we need to ensure correct load & speed index

The load index is a numerical code that corresponds to the maximum weight a tyre can support.

A tyre's load multiplied by 2 must cover the gross single axle load of your vehicle. SUPERCHARGED LOAD INDEX = 106 ( 950kg )

The speed index is a letter code that corresponds to a tyre's maximum speed. SUPERCHARGED speed index = Y ( up to 187mph )

Mounting tyres with a speed index smaller than that of the original tyres or than that recommended by the vehicle's manufacturer is prohibited. However, it is completely acceptable to mount tyres with a higher speed index.

In winter, it is acceptable to mount tyres with a lower speed index (by one letter) than those mounted in the summer. For example, if the summer tyres have a speed index code of W, winter tyres with a code of V can be mounted, but not those with a code of H.

Manufacturers calculate these speed indexes using tyres that are in good condition.
These indexes do not apply if your tires are damaged (bulges or cuts), underinflated, overloaded, or repaired. Speed indexes have been determined on highways without speed limits in Germany or on closed-course test tracks. Depending on the indexes, tyres retain more or less heat, undergo varying degrees of deformation, and perform differently at high speeds. Be careful, even if the tyres you mount can perform well at high speeds, no tyre manufacturer recommends driving above the speed limits.



UTQG = Uniform Tyre Quality Grading

UTQG ratings measure a tyre's performance based on test results in three categories and allow you to better select your tyres. The tests are carried out under strict conditions (on test tracks) and their results are informative. The UTQG ratings are branded into a tyre's sidewall.

Treadwear:
The treadware index represents how quickly a tyre becomes worn. This index is obtained by a test conducted on a test track over a distance of 6000 miles (9600 km), under controlled conditions. This index is between 60 and 620, with 100 as the reference standard. For example, a tyre with a treadware index of 50 will wear 2 times faster than a normal tyre whereas a tyre with a treadwear index of 420 will wear 4.2 times more slowly.
REMEMBER: The higher the treadware index, the longer the life of the tyre.
Traction:
The traction index represents a tyre's grip on wet roads. This index is indicated by the letters AA (highest index), A, B, C (lowest index). C is the lowest acceptable rating.
REMEMBER: The higher the traction index, the shorter the braking distance.
The traction index corresponds to tyre grip on wet roads along a straightaway!
Temperature
The temperature index represents a tyre's temperature resistance and its ability to dissipate heat. This index is obtained by a laboratory test using a test wheel. Excessive heat can cause tyre degradation. This index is indicated by the letters A (highest index), B, and C (lowest index). By law, C is the lowest acceptable rating.
REMEMBER: The temperature index "A" means that a tyre has good temperature resistance.
The temperature index applies to properly inflated tyres (neither underinflated nor overinflated) used in "normal" conditions (without excessive speed or load).

It is important to fit tyres from one manufacturer only and of one type only on your vehicle, in order to avoid having your car behave erratically.

Thats all good information, however I would say avoid Hankook, they are not good tyres.

Anything by Continental, Pirelli or Michelin and I think you are safe.

Interesting you say you tyres are quite worn, I have done double your mileage so I will measure mine and let you know what tread I have left. (Wait for it, I'll find they are down to the tread wear indicators.... Sad ) L319 D4 HSE

It does depend on the tyre but I seem to remember 8mm being "new".

My local tyre place (they're an independent and I've always found them knowledgeable) says that it's not absolutely vital that all four corners have the same tyres. What is more important is that you have identical tyres per axle. Hopefully this is true as I'm now running Contis up front and Goodyears at the back and was assured this was an acceptable configuration when they did it.

i have Hankook Ventus on my 3.6, and i like them, very little road noise and so far have been great in the wet, not tried them in the sun yet though Laughing
maybe this weather will last long enough for me to find out Very Happy 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Original equipment supplier to Chevrolet, Chrysler, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi, Smart, Ssangyong and Volkswagen In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

ive run Khumos on my evo 6 and on my 1st m3 and they were awesome.

hancook really arent a bad shout at all. i rate them quite highly.

contis are quite a soft compound a bit like toyos and tend to have a poo lifespan. especially if you drive them hard in the dry Whistle

I have had Hankook Ventus on my 09SC for 2.5 years now at 25,000 miles and still have 50% tread left. Probably the best tyre I have ever had on my cars! Handles extremely well in snow/rain and are very quiet. Would highly recommend. Also,
I researched tyres for 3 months before purchasing and read many reviews and the Hankooks exceeded many of the Michellins, Goodyears etc. mike murphy
