some bolinders were fitted with a hit and miss governor, commonly known as the pecker, the fuel pump operated on a stepped slide, it injects one large lump of fuel and then nothing. until the engine appears to be almost dying, when it then injects another large quantity of fuel, it only happens on tick over and not on full load.
