My first questions as a NEW owner!! Re: Bluetooth & DVD

Afternoon all... hope everyone's well.

My very "Ascot, Surrey" RRS arrived promptly this afternoon.... pics to follow in due course. In the meantime, I've got some lazy thicko questions that need answering... I'm too busy seeing people who think they might be ill so I'll leave it to the experienced experts to help me again...

1. There's a phone option in the car but it says "not connected"... I assume I need to purchase a separate cradle which attaches to some weired phone-shaped moulded plastic mount in the lid of the centre box? My Audi S4 was great- instant bluetooth connection! But this... yikes! What to do? Neutral

2. I assume the DVD player is region free and plays DVD-R discs too? (ie. one's which I've made copies of from my personal collection so the kids can't damage the originals... Wink ). If it isn't, is there some secret Harry Potter trick that one can conjure to make it so? Most of us are reptiles... only the enlightened few become human beings.

Gekko,

For point 1 - you need to go through the pairing process, which is obviously different for each phone but basically all you need is the bluetooth password, which is 2121.

As point 2 - not sure myself, I think it's region free but someone who actually has it will be able to confirm.

Good luck with your hypochondriacs! Thumbs Up

Still awaiting mine with the PTI and DVD options, but I do have the 08my manual for the rear seat entertainment and it says it is region coded ie it will play region 0 or region 2 and can handle disks of DVD-R, VCD (CDR, CDRW)

Quote:
Note: The DVD player fitted to your vehicle will
only play discs marked with the region code for
the area in which your vehicle was purchased,
or discs coded for all regions.

Quote:
The DVD player will play 12 cm DVDs, Video
CDs (VCDs) and audio CDs.
Note: Video CDs will have less options
available from their menus.
The DVD player is not compatible with High
Definition DVD discs, DVD-ROMs, DVD-RAMs,
Photo CDs, MP3s or DVD plus discs.

Quote:
Country code
The country code is set at the factory.
Audio
To select a different audio track or language
press the Audio icon. The audio track number
will appear in the display, along with
confirmation of the audio decoding.
The default selection is Dolby Digital
which provides high quality audio
output from mono to 5.1 surround
sound.
Manufactured under license from Dolby
Laboratories. Dolby, Pro Logic and the
double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby

DTS (Digital Theatre System) digital

I wouldn't bother with the cradle... they are phasing out anyway, and it's likely you'll buy the cradle and then change your phone in future making the cradle useless. Go straight for bluetooth and you're done Thumbs Up

Re the DVD thing... raises the question, can the DVD player be made region free? I'm presuming it's the same sort of DVD player that you'd find in a PC and these can often be made region free.

Bluetooth connection worked fine just as advised. I just need to work out how to get my list of numbers on the screen and not bother touching my phone now to make calls.

Re: region problem. Not a great deal, all the disney stuff I have is mainly region 1 and the rest of the stuff R0. Now I need to do a long trip and put kids in the back to make the entertainment pack worthwhile!! Most of us are reptiles... only the enlightened few become human beings.
