Claiming with Gap insurance

Would be interested if anyone has had need to claim on Gap insurance. Is it straight forward? If an insurance company writes a car off surely it's black & white situation. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

It should be straight forward but there can be one pitfall - There are some GAP policies that have a maximum "GAP" amount that they will pay. so, lets say you bought your car for £50K The car is now worth £30K the GAP is therefore £20K but if your GAP insurer has put a max limit on the policy they will only pay you that amount. When I was looking there was one policy that was a max of £5K !! - Pointless. Check your policy small print Exclamation 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Most GAP providers are just as sneaky as the insurance companies! A fair proportion of insurance policies cover 'new for old' during the first year of the vehicles life (worth checking that one), therfore the GAP company will try to dodge any payment as technically there is no GAP to bridge.

Another issue is 'Who agrees the GAP?'. So let's say the car was £50k new and it is stolen or written off, obviously the GAP company pays the GAP, but what happens if the insurance company values the car at £30k (£20k GAP) when in actual fact the replacement value is £35k (£15k GAP). Best bet in this situation is not to accept a settlement from thr insurance company, as this is being made without the GAP companies involvement and get your GAP provider to liaise directly. Obviously the GAP provider wants the insurance company to pay as much as possible to lessen the GAP he needs to pay, but obviously the insurance company wants to pay as little as possible, and you get stuck in the middle! It would be my guess that it is in the interest of the policy holder for the GAP company to pay as much as possible to lessen the total value of the claim against you for renewal premium's sake!

I hope the above makes sense, well it does to me (just)! Whistle TDV8 HSE in Java/Ebony with Zebrano Wood, RSE, Hybrid TV, and a few other bells and whistles.
