Is there anywhere in or around sunny Swindon that I could take my RRS off road for a little adventure. Nothing to serious just would like to give it a try?

Not familiar with the Swindon area but get yourself an OS map and check out the ByWays Open to All Traffic 'BOATS' Before attempting any phone the local county council's highways department or check out their web site to find if any of the BOATS have any restrictions on them. Finally don't go alone go with another 4x4 just in case you get stuck.

Do an internet search to see any local clubs in your area and tag along onto one of their outings. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I hadn't thought about contacting the council, so will do that when i'm home. Thanks for the advice and I will start surfing the net for a local 4X4 club.

Join www.mud-club.com for some decent green laning information. Usually best to go out with others in case you do get stuck.

I have done quite a bit of green laning on and around Sailsbury Plain, but not for 3 or 4 years now. There were many lanes above the white horse at Westbury which is only 30-40 mins from Swindon.

As mentioned in the other posts the best bet is to get a good OS map just to confirm that you don't stray off the proper routes.

When I used to go, we could drive for and hour or so without seeing tarmac, and there were plenty of other 4x4 owners out at the same time. I used to drive it in a Disco II which at the time was only 12 months old and although some of the sections were wet, muddy and steep, they were never damaging.

If you go into Westbury, then follow the hill up to the carpark above the white horse there is a track at the end on the right which goes past a farm house on the left then bends round to the left itself. You then have 5 miles of track which branches out all over the place.

Good luck, it's great fun, but check what the restrictions are these days. TDV8 HSE in Java/Ebony with Zebrano Wood, RSE, Hybrid TV, and a few other bells and whistles.

Hopefully we on disco3 site will be doing a Salisbury trip in Febuary and I'm sure they won't mind a RRS, several of the guys on here have been along. Its a great safe place to cut your teeth. You aren't likley to get stuck nor scratch your car.
