Laser Eye Surgery

Has anyone out there undergone this operation/procedure?

I am going to these http://www.accuvision.co.uk/index.html on the 23/2/06 for an initial consultation. They have been highly reccomended by a friend who has just had both his eyes scaped & polished Shocked

I haven't but my mum has. It was enforced with her as she had astigmatisms (sp?) in both eyes which meant that her abilities to wear contact lenses had come to an end and she refuses to wear glasses! So in the end she went and had both eyes blasted with lasers and now she can see properly without having to wear any corrective lenses at all. Took a few days for her eyes to "recover" after having it done but now apparently she can see like a ba**ard, to coin a phrase.

She is evidently a braver man than me - I wouldn't let anyone near my eyes with high power lasers unless they were a certified Evil Nemesis(TM) and had me strapped into some James Bond-like device with a view to torturing the location of the Secret Plans out of me. I am happy with my contacts, thanks very much Wink

I talked the wife out of having it done - it is still a relatively new procedure with unporven long term results. If you tap it into Google with something like - 'medical reports' as a prefix you should get back a lot of detail on the subject. Many articles are out there relating to worsening of eye sight after a certain amount of years - even worse than if you hadn't had the surgery.

I am no GP, but in my opinion it is still early days - there is a place in Leeds slotted in amongst a row of shops where you can just 'pop in' and get it done. I find this most disconcerting when you consider the importance of your eye sight!

Mmmm, yes, I want a new pair of shoes, some socks, oh, and whilst your at it I will have my eyesight corrected Shocked

I admit that I have 20/20 vision so I can't start to think of how attractive the prospect must be to someone with poor vision......... Currently: Carbon Black 535d

I suppose early days is subjective, ST... I was one of the poor unfortunates that had to miss the millenium festivities in place of earning an obscene amount of money for one night's work in 2000 and I remember a guy working with me who'd had it done earlier that year so the process has got to be 6 years old at least.

I'm a blind git myself... -2.5 in each eye and I still wouldn't have it done. Not really because I don't trust the procedure, I just don't want people firing lasers into my eyes. There's something not right about that Wink I get perfect adjusted vision wearing contacts without looking like a speccy Censored and that'll do for me! Wink

I guess my comments are a bit rich considering that my eyesight is good.

It must be life changing for those who do have it done it just seems to me that every quack on the high street now does it......very disconcerting Currently: Carbon Black 535d
