Dealers make a huge profit on GAP insurance - which suggests you can probably buy a lot cheaper elsewhere or it is largely unnecessary. On a vehicle like the RRS, where depreciation rates are quite modest, I wouldn't bother. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

gap insurance

thanks for the response, I have done a bit of research. and found that my insurance company will give me a new ffrr within the first 12 months if anything happens to it, so gap ins is not required for the first year, am awaiting response from brokers if they will cover me after the first year . Somehow I think not.

On the couple of occasions I've had GAP insurance - you could only get it in the first 30 days of you having the car.... don't know if that's a general rule or not, and I haven't had it for the past 3 cars.

The companies that provide it vary with their rules over when you can buy it, also the value of the car they will accept and the period of time you can have the cover for. It's also worth checking who is underwriting the policy...cheapest may not be best. But there are plently of reasonable offers out there.

I'm considering a vehicle replacement gap policy at the moment. Replaces new car for old, so allows for increase in retail value at anytime during the 4 years cover. Max car value is 100K (many have a 50K ceiling). Underwritten by Axa. Cover is for 25K. Buy within 90 days of first registration. £488 approx.

I know I can get back to retail cover for 3 years underwritten by Hitachi. Buy within 180 days. 25K of cover for about £290 or less.

But option 1 seems like a better buy in that it allows for the cost of the replacement value to go up....which we all know will rise.

In answer to the question "Is it worth it Question ". Well a few years ago I wrote off a 14 month old car and the Gap policy put me back in a new car pretty damn quick without any financial pain. £250 policy paid out £14K Exclamation TDV6 - gone

Jag Exclamation with 16K of damage, that they initially wanted to repair and put back on the road. Shocked Shocked Shocked

Some poor soul is probably driving it around now not knowing that the underside chassis is completely screwed and will probably kill them if it crashes again Exclamation

Told insurance to sod off and scrap it as the damage was more than 60% of the market value. They had to agree with that. Claimed on the Gap and bought a Merc. Thumbs Up TDV6 - gone
