Navi TMC problem

Hi, i have a rrs 2,7 hse 2007. my Tmc into the navi system have a problem. When i start the Tmc station reserch the system never find any stations or find only one station but after more more minutes (still 20/30min.).

i have a bmw x5 with original navi system and his Tmc is very fast and it can find 2 or 3 Tmc station in the same location of rrs.

The sellers tell me "the x5 Tmc system is better than rrs" is that true ?

I have bougth x5 in the 2004 the rrs in the 2007.

Sorry for my english and Thank you.

I doubt you can get Classic FM in Italy!

Mine occasionally picks up rogue TMC stations which means you have to restart a search for the real station.

For example:

In the UK the TMC station is "Classic FM" but in the London area mine occasionally switches to "Heart FM" which it seems to think is TMC but isn't. I have to get it to re-seek to Classic FM. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

In the UK, the TMC signal is only broadcast on one radio frequency, that of the radio station Classic FM. The situation will be different in Italy.

Here you are:

Italy
A public RDS-TMC service free of charge is available in Italy from 1 July 1998. CCISS (National Traffic Information Centre) is providing the service. It is broadcast on the RAI FM network, on Radio 1; this service covers only the Northern Italy, from Turin to Venice.

Another TMC service is provided by the commercial radio station RTL in cooperation with InfoBlu, transmitted on the national radio station RTL 102.5. This service is available as Premium Service so you have to use a software enabled receiver. The service covers 90% of the population of Italy, and is still increasing.

The Italian location table, provided by RAI-CCISS, is in its version 2.0.

This highlights an annoying problem with the TMC system as it tries to auto-search for a station, even though in the UK there is only one. If it can't find a station within a couple of runs around the frequencies it stops.

All very clever, but if, like me, you park in an underground carpark the sodding thing tries to retune itself, can't find a station, and then sticks to the one with the strongest signal (which isn't classic).

Can the auto-tune be disabled?

If you didn't press 'agree' until you were above ground would it not start searching until then (thus avoiding the problem) or does it search on power up?

I think it searched before you press agree. I seem to recall times when I havn't needed the sat nav and havn't pressed agree until a lot later and the TMC is up and running. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

TMC cost us money and the damn thing doesn't work properly - why arn't we insisting that they fix this problem or give us some money back. My TMC works about 50% of the time. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I don't understand why there is often the comment of "my TMC retunes to something else"....

Surely the TMC receivers in all Satnav devices are preconfigured to listen for a TMC signal and it gets that independent of what your radio is ever doing? I appreciate you might not always be able to receive it because your Classic FM range disappears.

I presume I'm being a bit thick in understanding how it works... Confused

Dead easy, you tune the TMC channel to Classic and it works, you drive around, Classic signal may or may not dissappear and come back, you may, or may not turn the ignition off and back on, eventually you notice that TMC has been off for quite a while, on rechecking you find the TMC channel is now tuned to Heart FM and needs a search forced to find Classic again....repeat as necessary. Mad Mad Mad Cheers

I never had to physically tune it into a channel when I had mine and I never had any issues with TMC, always worked fine. Likewise the TMC works perfectly well on my 535, also without any input from me to make it work.

Confused Confused Confused Confused
