Hi again.
Car went back to dealer last tuesday for further investigation. They gave me their demo to test drive for the day which knocked. So I pulled the DR fuse, and low and behold unlike my car the knocking stopped.
When I returned to pick my car up in the afternoon the after sales manager told me that they still couldn't find the fault with the vehicle and added that they cannot work on my car any futher without LR's authorisation.
So now, at my own expense I have had an independent engineers report carried out ( strange how these engineers have done a few RRs).
They have determined that there are two noises eminating from the car. One is the ARC pump, and the other being the rack or the column of which would undermine the safety of the vehicle.
In the mean time I have demanded a full refund on the purchase price of the car stating not fit for purpose, and of not satisfactory quality. Also stating that Between the dealer and LR they are in breach of the warranty agreement. They have had ten weeks to rectify this fault. (They have till thusday to reply).
Then this morning, LR customer care rang to ask if it was convenient to take my car to the dealer tomorrow where a regional technical manager will inspect/test drive the car. This is the fith time back!!!!!
I'm Getting so excited I can hardly contain myself!!!!!

frizz I feel your pain and best of luck. When you have a good RRS they really are a fantastic car. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I'm not so sure that a good RRS exists you know.

I'm afraid of mine, the noise from the front end just seems to say "stop driving me, something important is going to fall off and do you a lot of damage" It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!

I miss my old RRS "bucket" rattling around but it just had to go!

High everyone. Back for an update.
Well the LR tech guy determined that there was a secondary clonking eminating from the front end of my car.
He said it will be fixed, and they did, with a NEW STEERING RACK. ( Wonder if this one will last more than 3,000 miles). He also added that nothing could be done about the arc pump noise as it is a characteristic blah, blah, blah....
But all said and done, the arc noise is actually pretty quiet on my car.
This fix only took 9 weeks and 6 visits to the dealer with the threat of solicitor action.
However, the car goes back yet again next week for further investigation/fix, to find out why I get a clunking/graunching through the steering wheel when braking and accelerating from standstill away from junctions with a further clunk when the wheel is turned 1/4 of a turn.
I think it is possible that LR have a serious quality control issue with their manufactured components.

knocking noise from front end

Im with you Doc. S/C going in Monday for new software but last night driving into London i heard a different less meaty groaning from same area after about 45 minutes driving,it wasnt there when i drove home some 4 hours later!!!
My dealer assures me they can sort this without me having independent inspection that i booked so lets see.
Otherwise its RS 6 M5 or AMG 55 on my drive (I sort of hope they cant cure it now i have visited these dealers!) Rolls Royce Ghost, RRS 2.7 TDV6, E220 Avantgarde Estate.

I've had my Range Rover Sport TDV8 for 3 weeks now and during the first few days till now RRS is making a knocking noise from the front right wheel at low speed. I took it to the nearest Land Rover to have it checked and they too admitted that the sound is not normal.
Their head Technician said it has a problem with the steering rack and that they had similar problem reported by another owner and they replaced the steering rack on his RRS and the noise stopped. So they've ordered a steering rack for me which will be fitted once they receive it. They said it would only take 1 day to fit it and 2 days to arrive.

Well, My car is still at the dealers having the suspension set up re-configured. I have a feeling that this alone will not cure the sensation that I get through the steering wheel. I told the dealer that it feels very much like a worn lower wishbone bush or a steering column fault as it can be felt under braking and accelerating from standstill.
I will be test driving the car tomorrow.( If it's not right it stays at the dealers.)

Hi All,
Back for an update. I have been reading with interest the problems with the knocking from the front end. Ours has now been into 2 stealers a total of 5 times. We have the arc noise and a chattering on the front suspension when you go over potholes etc. Both stealers are saying they cannot fix either knocks. Land Rover says there is not a fix out yet. Woman from Land Rover 'Customer Care' is completely useless. (Alison Mitchell)
Our arc noise, you only have to move the steering wheel an inch an it knocks. There is no way this is a 'characteristic'. We went into the stealers that we bought the car from (Colliers in Sutton Coldfield, West Mids) and insisted on seeing the service manager, the manager and a mechanic. They had a big conference but cannot do anything until the senior arrives back on Monday (20th), saying if they order us a new vehicle the knock will still be there.
We have had no apology, not even a free service and are well p***ed off with their 'Customer Care'.
The trouble is there is no other car that we want the same as a lot of you. If they offer us a buy back do you think they'd give us the full price? We would prefer another vehicle the same, as it can't possibly have the 2 knocks that are as noisy as ours. Otherwise it'll have to be a lot of negative publicity for Land Rover hopefully with all of your support.
The Biggy
