United States 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Bonatti Grey
Best iPod accessory

I wish to integrate my iPod Nano into the stereo system.
I need a device that allows the iPod to charge, (meaning 'the device' plugs into the rear cigarette lighter socket I assume); has a line-out cable to plug into the Aux socket in the rear, AND has a built in 'pre-amp' so that the volume of the iPod is audible. Any suggestions on what to buy? I do NOT want anything with an FM transmitter built in.
TIA,

It's really been covered hundreds of time in LR3 and RRS forums. Search! Smile But there is no product with a "real" amp or line driver. (Ignore the Belkin marketing; it's a lie.)

From a previous post:

This is the "best" solution for basic iPod connectivity: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage..._Id=149006

One cable to the iPod dock connector. In addition to power/charging, it feeds the iPod's "line-out" audio (which is driven at a higher level) to a 3.5mm jack on the power plug. Since the power plug is right next to the AUX jack on RRS, it's really quite clean with a very short 3.5mm cable.

Though still not completely volume matched (Land Rover, PLEASE add a AUX volume off-set to the head unit!), it's better than using the headphone jack.

For iPod nano, this is also a "dock" solution with line-out: http://www.xtrememac.com/chargers/microflex_car.php (Though you'd need to run a longer cable, since it only makes sense in the front.)

Bish,

I have a Nano and an iRiver mp3 player. I have tried both of these plugged into the AUX socket. The iPod was actually better as I did not have to crank the iPod's volume up to the highest level to hear it ok on the stereo.

For both devices though I had to had the stereo volume higher than normal, just that the iPod was not as high. I haven't bothered with a charger yet as the battery lasts longer than any of my journeys, however if I was going on a very long trip I would invest in one. L319 D4 HSE

I have the belkin piece that grommet linked to above, really is the "best" entry level method as far as i have found. Equally as important is to pick up a *very* short (4 to 6 inch) Mini (3.5mm) to Mini (3.5mm) cable to run from the belkin piece to the aux jack right next to it. I found just one supplier online that had them in stock, will post the link later when i find it.

Has anyone found a really short (4 to 6 inch) 3.5mm cable for this job yet?

Robbie, you could try someone like Leads Direct who might be able to make one up for you, if they don't already sell one.
