Well I am working on it at the min. The best people in the world that understand fluid transition are Lubgard.(USA)
They make supplements you put in your oil in engines. gearbox etc but their products are quite impressive. They do exactly what it says on the tin. I had their people here yesterday and Wednesday because i aint putting up with it until I have found the cure. The problem is I would like the Delphi info on the Hydraulic actuators and the Delhi ASBS - Active Stabilizer Bar System which is what the DR system consists of. At the moment all the test we have done point to a mechanical movement making the noise NOT fluid movement. Obviously the fluid helps the mechanical parts move- is this why when you diconnect the power supply to the DR system, and stop pumping the fluid the noise goes away. This Texaco fluid they recommend is actually Dexron 3 Automatic transmission fluid. I will keep you all informed. If I can find a simple cure the party is at Envoys house. Thumbs Up Whistle You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Well done Nutty Nige keep up the good work. Unfortunately my car still clonks with the DRS disabled. No doubt when this part of the car is fixed it will going back yet again for the DRS fix.(Knew I should have kept the Landcruiser).
I know for a fact that LR do look at this site as I pointed the guy at customer care to this forum and took him through various threads on this topic whilst I was talking to him on the phone. I have also handed several copies to my dealer to read through. He assured me that LR will eventually come up with a fix.(not soon enough for my liking).
But what amazes me is that LR are still selling these RRS with the DRS. ( WOW! What a recall when it happens).
But then again I suppose they have their get out of jail free card in the way of this Nonsense bulletin.
Come on LR fix this design fault!!!!

Nutty Nige,
If, like you say the noise is caused by mechanical movement and not hydraulic valve and oil noise, and this can be substantiated by the means of an engineers report, then it would seem that the bulletin that owners are handed after returning to pick up their car from the dealer is NOT RELEVENT.
If all mechanical couplings and joints are ok, then all you should hear is an under car thud (this needs to be clarified on how loud), pulse or clicking from the DRS, this seems not to be the case. It would appear that LR need to address this design fault ASAP before owners go ahead and obtain an independent engineers report stating mechanical rather than a hydraulic problem. This would give more for those looking for a total refund.
As a knock on effect, this would eventually affect S/H values. Lets face it, who would want to buy a car with a clonky front end for a lot of money, and the dealers will be left with many RRS littering their forecourts.

Well done you Tech Headz! All seems to be progress towards finding out exactly what is wrong.

I think we also need to be lobbying LR hard too. Remember your nice shiny RRS when you collected it from the dealer? Did it clonk then? Mine didn't! It started after a number of months after "stuff" had worn in; freed-up etc.

Well, I have written to Top Gear (as I said I would). I haven't received a reply as yet. I will let you know know if I ever do! It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!

I miss my old RRS "bucket" rattling around but it just had to go!

My car had the software upgrade and replacement bushes about two months ago and I had peace for a month. But guess what, it is now back to the normal noise. Normal being the clunking noise from the front end which I have put up with since delivery last October.

Last week the car went back to the dealers and had a further software upgrade to no avail. How software can cure obvious mechanical degradation I do not know! Naturally there was no improvement.

When I first had the problem it took 3 months to convince the garage of the problem interspersed with totally unhelpful discussions with LR customer disservice.

Why LR cannot understand there appears two problems, the hydraulic knock which may or may not be acceptable and the associated mechanical knock which is definately not acceptable. If the noise was purely hydraulic why does it get worse with time and suddenly improve when new bushes are fitted?

Count me in on any attempts to get any publicity on this issue as I really object to spending £50,000 on a car which has been faulty for nearly 10 months.[/b]

Reading about this "knocking problem", I have a TDV8 MY08 for one month now..

I don't know if this is also due to the same problem but what I have is the following..

When I release throttle after driving like say 100 km/h, you can hear a kind of "whistle" noise..

So we went back to the dealer, and they hear it also, they are not aware of any problems, and we did not mention about this topic's and the forum, but is this the same problem we are talking about..

And reading about the vibrations sometimes I have them also..

I am not aware of any knocking noise, but thinking about it, last week I was thinking ; "what luggage is laying loose? so maybe..?

Anyway I have an oppointment at the dealer, they have the car at 26, and 27 juli, for investigation.

"Whistle noise" - this sounds like the normal turbo dump valve noise and nothing to worry about.

Actually it's more a "whistle" coming from the drive-train / driving-shafts..

But we will see..
