Voice activated phone... is it my accent?

Hi again,

On a previous thread you will see that I don't actually have my RRS right now as its in the dealer getting "sorted". But in its place I have a Disco of the same spec (HSE) and in both cars I have had the very same strange problem!

Phone hooks up no problem via bluetooth. But when I try and use the voice activation it can never even understand "Phone help" let alone anything more complicated. I can use the sat nav by voice no worries but it just seems that it doesn't understand me saying "phone". If I had a broad regional accent I could understand but I don't, my accent is very plain????

Anyone else have this problem or solved it. I have tried saying "phone" in different ways, shouting at it and telling it to **** off but none of that worked either.

Mark

"You must think in RUSSIAN!" Laughing

Seriously though... the voice control system is generally rubbish (as it is in most cars). I had no problem with "phone redial" but it wouldn't ever accept "phone dial" - christ knows why.

I said "Navigation Go Home" the other day and the system very helpfully repeated "Phone Mike"!!! Confused
How the hell it managed that one is beyond me. It definately does work better if you talk at a normal volume and as naturally as you can - If you try to talk very clearly and precisely - Just like we Brits do when we are trying to make a foreigner understand us in English - then it won't work. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Mine worked beautifully until I popped it into the Dealers to have a small rattle in the front headlining checked.
The rattle is gone but the voice system has difficulty understanding me. I guess the rattle was a loose microphone and now it have been clipped back it is not so sensitive. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

Have you got it on the correct language setting? Is it a woman's voice? If you have a man speaking back it is on US not UK

Since we start our relationship, we understand much better every day. She wants an easy and sweet mode. Lovely girl; she is learning Spanish very well
By the way, she prefers my Mexican accent than my girlfriend’s Spanish accent. May be jealous Wink

Try changing from US English to UK English. Mine was set to US English when I got it and it didn't understand a word that I was saying - thought it was my northern accent. After changing to UK English it works a treat. Can't recall the exact menu option to change, buried away in the sat nav settings somewhere.
