I have only just joined the forum so forgive me if this topic has been raised in the past!

Recently, I have noticed that the steering on my RRS (TDV6 HSE 2006) has started to feel a little more 'vague'. The car seems to have a tendency to 'tramline' more than it used to & is susceptible to undulations and changes in road surface e.g. white lines. This is particularly noticeable under braking when I sometimes feel a definite 'pull' on the steering wheel.

I have wondered if it could be due to the tyres wearing down (8,500 miles to date - approx 6mm tread remaining all round). I haven't noticed any unusual tyre wear through incorrect tracking.

Any thoughts or ideas welcome! Thanks in advance.

Do you have the dynamic pack - i.e. with 20in wheels, Dynamic Response etc. Otherwise, tyres, wheel alignment, steering rack, suspension... could be anywhere in there theoretically. Can you associate the problem with a particular event?

Yes mine does it on exactly the same surface, but as Shmoogle says it is worse with the Dynamic pack and 20" wheels - they do tramline slightly. You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

I've got a bog standard HSE with 19" wheels & Pirelli Scorpion tyres.

It's particularly noticeable if I run on/ cross white lines or if the road surface is uneven e.g if the road has been dug up and repaired.

The tyres appear to be wearing evenly with no sign of uneven wear on the edges through bad tracking.

I feel it too, and it seems it has been worsening day by day. The steering becomes specially vague at high velocity in roads with irregularities. It doesn�t make me feel confident at all�

I have the dynamic pack. In what way is this relevant? And is it possible that indeed it is worsening?

My last RRS did it and my new RRS does it and come to think about it so did my last Range Rover, i think it may just be a trait of having a vehicle that weighs nearly three tons and has big tyres  some of my Previous cars

Wide low profile tyres = Tramling. Ask any 911 owner.

The RRS is much better than my Discovery II - I had the last of the production series IIs and as it had the largest alloys/tyres fitted on the range it was very poor - tramlined everywhere. The RRS is much better.

The best way to minimise it is to be very vigilant on the tyre pressures, keep them at the recommended pressures and don't let them drop at all.

You see, that's why I love this forum so much.

I have had this with my car too and thought "local crap road" or "must be me having bad thoughts about my RRS again"

My car also "wallows" (if that is a correct term) and tramlines. On one particular road near Windsor it seems incredibly bad; it's like being on a damned ship! It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!

I miss my old RRS "bucket" rattling around but it just had to go!
