Telford, glorious Telford....

I have just learnt I am to spend the next 3 months of my life in Telford. Given we have a few members up in vaguely that neck of the woods - what's it like? I understand it's oop north, so have the following questions?

1. Will I need to buy a flat cap and a whippet?
2. Do they have electricity/running water/internet access?
3. Is it safe to take the RRS there?
4. Will I need to take a crash course in sounding like Ozzy Osbourne?

OK... more realistically Wink :

1. How easy is access via car from down south (I'm assuming M40). Any traffic blackspots to avoid (given the Satnav will probably send me via Edinburgh anyway)? Best way to circumnavigate Brum.
2. What's to do there when you are forced to stay overnight (other than just returning to the hotel and posting here!)
3. Anything else I need to know?

Thanks folks!

Laughing Laughing Laughing

A popular location all round then Wink Hardly surprising since it's the HQ location of the Inland Revenue... (or HMRC as we're meant to call them nowadays). Technically, they're a bit of a mess since the merger so that's where I come in with my metaphorical dustpan and brush Rolling Eyes

Any thoughts on the serious questions?

What.. ur working at HMRC in Telford!!.. nice..
My dad occassionally does runs up to Telford for tax meetings etc we have to attend for clients.

They were building a LOT of houses in Telford which was making a very nice suburb area, and it is quite cheap relative to some other places, so it has its plus points.

Yes, I'll be working for Capgemini who have the IT service contract with HMRC. Up there for 3 or 4 days a week, allowed to return to the more tropical climate of Hants for Fridays... nice. I might actually be able to swap to another role in Tunbridge Wells which at least is commutable for me on a daily basis.... watch this space, but I can see a dubious Travelodge on a major roundabout being my home from home Wink
