Hi guys, need some urgent advice.....

I put my S4 in to the local garage on Thurday for them to replace the rear discs and pads before I hopefully sell it as per my previous post. Garage completed the work and we took the car to the South West for the weekend, about half way there (2 1/2 hours away) the brake pedal was travelling further and further until the car would barely stop at all, we managed to limp to our destination and this morning the car apparently has no brake fluid in it. the recovery man said it was most likely the garage's fault as the brakes were working fine on Thursday morning and they have probably punctured a pipe. Just interested as to how other forum members would approach this situation given what could have happened. My thoughts are to cancel my payment to the garage and for them to fix the issue before I have the AA check the car over, if the garage do not like this then I will probably threaten some legal consequences....any thoughts????

Firstly don't go into the garage all guns blazing, calmly explain the situation and then give them the opportunity to examine the car, but while you are in attendance, so that they cant pull the wool etc, then if it is there fault, let the hit the fan, just my opinion of course some of my Previous cars

I agree, not really my style to go in and just lose the plot with them anyway, I think best to calmly explain what I want them to do and if any refusals etc then explain the process by which a negligence action is started and the likely costs/consequences.....!

As Envoy says but do make doubley sure they do not tinker with anything, or ring them and give them a chance to put their hands up if not go straight for an independant inspection.

If the garage is an Audi franchise, you might want to mention contacting Audi UK customer services. The garage is on all kinds of bonus schemes for achieving various customer service "standards". A serious, safety & quality control issue of this nature (or possibly even failure of an Audi part) will have potentially serious financial implications for the garages bonus (which will almost certainly be measured at 30 June). You might find they take you a whole lot more seriously if they believe they are at risk of financial penalty from Audi UK. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Same thing happened to me after a Mazda service. RAC man found a little spanner still on the nipple which is used to bleed the brake fluid so dealer was bang to rights. 'Luckily' total brake failure only occured in a car park when I arrived at my destination 100miles away, not on the M3.

I asked them calmly about the way forward. Result was that service refunded and next service free too.

Its amazing how many people have similar stories about dodgy workmanship from what is regarded as the specialists, and we pay a lot of money for this service.

I had a flywheel come lose on an MG after it had had a clutch fitted and new rear main seal, i had to battle with the dealer as they wouldn't admit responsibility, it turned out to be a young apprentice who had done the job.
