Diesel cheaper than unleaded

I had noticed recently that the price of diesel is now virtually the same as unleaded but yesterday I saw my first garage selling diesel cheaper than unleaded. Does anyone know why. When I was younger diesel was always cheaper than petrol, over the last few years unleaded has been cheaper - why the fluctuation? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

They said it was down to the increase in demand for diesel and the refineries not being able to keep up Rolling Eyes

Up here in Aberdeenshire Diesel has been about 1p per litre cheaper for a while.

By the way, Don't know if it's already been posted, but here is a link to a very handy wee site that will find you the cheapest fuel prices in your area by postcode or town. Smile

Lack of demand for heating oil in the 'summer' is the reason. Here in Ireland, it's only in the last few years that diesel has cost the same, or even slightly more than petrol during winter months. In summer, diesel is normally a good bit cheaper - approx 10 cent difference between them at the moment.
