Reliability Issues - Real Deal

So, I've been reading through this forum and quite frankly...I'm having second thoughts on getting a RRS. I know a lot of times people only post when they have problems with their cars so the forum is a bit biased in terms of rating the vehicles reliability. However, there seems to be a lot of more significant issues than with some other manufactures.

SO...how many people here have had no problems with their RRS at all?

BTW - I'm in the U.S. so the only model is the RRS 4.4L V8 or S/C 4.2L V8...

Quite frankly you only tend to see bad things on car forums. When the car is fine there is nothing to talk about!
Yes the RRS does have its fair share of problems but if you were to go on Merc or BMW forums to name a few you would see the same sort of posts for their cars.

A lot of your owning experience will be judged by how well your dealer rectifies any problems that you do have so try and pick well.

You will also find some owners on here who have had no problems what so ever!

Absolutely right, Cliff.... it's the same as when you watch the news isn't it? How much of what you see on CNN makes you feel warm and cosy inside? Wink It's true there do seem to be some recurring problems that as owners we'd rather not put up with, but if your dealer can rectify them quickly and easily for you then there's no real problem. On the positive side of that argument, a lot of these problems have been seen through this forum and as a knowledge base we can probably help you sort out most problems. There are also a couple of very valuable US-based members which can help out when you have a "local" issue... stick with it, and you'll more than likely find ownership rewarding Very Happy

For what it's worth, I had a year of absolutely trouble free motoring in my RRS and I had it for 26k miles. Not a single issue other than it going through tyres and brakes like they were going out of fashion.

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

I have had more than a dozen Land Rovers includding 2 Disco 3's and 2 RRS's. Never had anything other than very mild teething trouble with any of then and many (including my current RRS) have never missed a beat.

Bear in mind that in buying a RRS you are taking on a vehicle that has in many ways redefined what a Sports Utility Vehicle is capable of. It is cutting edge technology in terms of comfort, handling, suspension, transmission, electronics etc etc. A few vehicles find the systems and associated sensors "play up" but this is often fixed in one visit to the dealer. Very occassionally a vehicle lets its owner down, but in reality are those occassions really any more than other manufacturers ?

Land Rovers problem is that some people "expect" them to be unreliable (as indeed they were at times in the last 20 years), so when they do suffer a fault there is a tendancy for that to fulfil expectations and bring about a cry of "I told you so". Some other manufacturers have a reputation for reliability and therefore people dont "expect" then to have a fault. If they do have a fault, there is a tendancy to see it as very much the exception not the rule and quickly forgive and forget.

So in conclusion, buying any new vehicle brings some risk of technical problems, but with a RRS that is a risk that seems no larger than with other vehicles, but very well worth taking Thumbs Up RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

My RRS is the 6th Land Rover I've owned since 1994. In all those cars only one of them has ever broken down (a parted Vee belt on a TD5 Disco2) and that wasn't any great shakes as it was on the way to the dealer to collect a new Freelander and the car was still covered by Land Rover Assist.
Like Smarticus I've had minor problems with a couple of the cars but nothing that has left me stranded at the side of the road or inconvenienced me. I did think long and hard before I bought my 1st LR purely because of the reliablity question, but they have turned out to be much more reliable than the Volvo 480 and the Audi 80 Tdi Avant that I owned before the first Disco. There are rougue cars out there, but then every manufacturer gets a few of those as well. One thing for sure, there is every chance you will get a Monday morning car of LR, but you will never ever get a Friday afternoon car..............................

coz the Solihull factory doesn't build any cars on a Friday afternoon!
I know people who have had far more trouble from BMW's than I've had from my Land Rovers - one of my neighbours told me I was nuts buying a FFRR as it would never be out of the dealer's service bay. I had the last laugh when he chopped in a 3 month old 4.8X5 because in those 3 months he only got to drive it for about 3 weeks............................ he drives a Range Rover Vogue now and his wife has an early Freelander with a squillion miles on it and neither car has missed a beat!! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care

I agree
Many LR products over many years.
Lots of friends bought other brands and had more problems + bad dealers...
Choose the dealer before the car and the deal.
