Going back to the thread for a minuite !

I think the general feeling is that the UK is a great place to live although it does have its downsides (as most places). Would be good if we highlighted the highs, as smarticus has done but also discus the lows. The negatives are not enough for us to change country or even get frushrated about. It would be good to highlight some bad points, blow off some steam, write a few letters and move on.

A story making the rounds at the moment http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6715743.stm . We let in immigrants from many countries, I do beleive there should be tighter controls, however Gurkha Tul Bahadur Pun should have had automatic citenzenship the day he signed up to the British Army.

Pretty disgusting it has taken this long for him to be allowed to live in the UK, even more disgusting considering he lost 2 fingers, shattered his arm, held the machine gun nest for three hours (after loosing his fingers and shattering his arm !) killed 60+ Koreans all on his own - when reinforcements arrived they found 34 dead directly infront of his machine gun - hence being awarded the VC.

OR you can move from a Serbian slum, having never worked, with no money, have never done anything for the UK and be given council accommodation and benefit each week !

Zilch, agree with you mate but at the same time I also know that living abroad is not for everyone. A lot of our friends have visited and whilst they can see it is right for us, they say they don't think they could do it.

I cannot understand anyone who would not be infuriated when they see (As I did) a news programme reporting in France at the Channel Tunnel interviewing refugees from Afghanistan saying, when asked why they are trying to get into the UK........... 'I want free house and free money. England is good for this'

This is not because they are Afghan's, or indeed any nationality, skin colour or whatever.

It's because they are driving up YOUR taxes to fund their sponging.

Agree with Smarticus (Really? ) that there are a lot of immigrants who contribute wholeheartedly to the UK and I applaud them for that.

After all, I suppose I am an immigrant into Cyprus but I will never take a penny out of the countries coffers, I will only ever put INTO their economy......
