Paint work

Picked up the Sport today and spotted some flaws with the paint....have 'eagle eyes' so nothing will pass by my own PDI!!

How to describe...its like tiny specks, like a large grain of sand under the paint work. First spotted one on the tail gate then 4 on the rear left door and then one on the rear right door. Will give the roof a look tomorrow.

The dealer is going to get the re-spray shop to take a look but not sure how Land Rover could pass the car after its paint job!

I am pretty sure they will say it needs re-spraying...or should I say they better say that Confused

Not good for a new car.

Has anyone else had issue with the paint on delivery? Rob

perhaps not just respraying but more thorough paint job might be necessary, in the sense that applying an extra coat of paint which is very thin wont be able to cover a spot similar to a large grain of sand, could be that the paint when applied to your car was not properly mixed and it was thicker than it should, thus the result.Just a thought though, I m no paint expert... I had to have my rear passenger door resprayed three times. The dealer was very accomodating, of course, this was before they got their check. The third time was perfect.

I also had a torn piece of leather trim, a marred dashboard panel, a chipped wood door panel, a loose rear side window, loose trim on the dash, and a malfunctioning sirius radio. All but the latter have been repaired, and i just got word yesterday that the parts for the radio have been identified and ordered. I am hopeful.

I do love my car, but think they have no idea about quality control at Land Rover.

Did a complete check of the paint work and I have half a dozen paint specks all over the roof. Add that to the rear doors and possible front door plus tail gate (which includes a small scrap) I am not very impressed with the paint quality check they should have done!! Mad

I feel a major claim on bodywork warranty coming! Rob

Not good, Robbi - shame when you've been looking forward to picking it up for a while only to find they have failed you in such a fundamental part of the car's manufacture. I seem to remember a couple of posts a while back about paint finish complaints, but none so "obvious" as yours. As MDP says, let us know what transpires.

I guess some colours are easier to spot flaws in. I think Vesuvius, Rimini and Java are all tricky ones.

Silver is pretty good at hiding things. Still, it should be perfect with the technology they have these days. L319 D4 HSE

I am working in the UK this week but have next week off, so will find out next Monday.
Some flaws you could live with (very small bubbles, which can only be seen but not felt) but not the ones that are sharp specks.

Ps. The dealer is going to retro-fit the Cherry wood...so they are being good. Rob

Land Rover have finally agreed for the car to be resprayed (roof, rear spoiler & hatch & 3 doors.... think that covers it!).

The dealer said I could agree to the respray or the other option is to ask for the car to be taken back and replaced.

The big problem with the later option is the time and effort that will take.

Of course my big worry is having so much of the car resprayed. The spray shop weren't that keen on doing the job and like they say Land Rover has much better spraying machines.

So guys, what would you recommend?

Cheers Rob

It should have been perfect Robbi, swallow the wait and ask for a loaner car and ask for a PERFECT car to be supplied, after all you will know it's been resprayed and it won't give you any satisfaction. I'm sure the dealer has a demo RRS he could let you drive in the mean time! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The most difficult colour to respray and match is Silver........ the most difficult paint FINISH to repair is Chromaflair. Chromaflair is so difficult to match/repair that some insurers will refuse to insure the car as the cost of repair is SO high it is often better to replace the entire car! I think this is why you don't see too many RR Autobiographies and TVR's in the eyecatching colours that they put on the press fleet and show cars. This is according to the Chipsaway guy that came to my car. He thought my Givenrny Green colour was a "special" and would have difficulty finding the right recipe for matching the paint. He was surprised to find it is a standard colour and he had no problem getting the recipe and colour match right! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The paint finish on my original Buckingham Blue D3 was very poor, there have been a few cases with the same colour.
My new Zermatt is a much better finish although there are a couple of small specs under the paint on one door and the door shuts on the off side have not been laquered. Rolling Eyes
The small specs I will leave as rectification would cause more damage than what it's worth but the door shuts will have to be looked at by the stealer.

Robbi I agree with everyone else sod the wait make them give you a new car.

I have a problem with my rear passanger door they have yet to see it but i hope they agree to repaint it, the colour is white and that's a pain to match as well.

Good Luck with it
