Chipping and Insurance

Morning all - have read plenty about various chipping/ecu software upgrade options, but can't find anything on insurance implications. Will probably get mine done in the autumn when it has a few miles on the clock...

Some questions spring to mind :-

Who's told their insurance Vs who hasn't? (I appreciate that you may not wish to incriminate yourself on a public website so PM's welcome if you don't want to answer/vote... However, if you just vote and don't post then I don't think you can be identified)
If you told them, how much did they load your premium by?
Is it better to use an "invisible" upgrade rather than a piggy-back option?
Are there any owner "reversible" options available?

Cheers

jHamshaw:

There are plenty of posts on this forum under 'chipping' which outline the 'fors' and 'againsts' and the merits for both the reprogramming method and the external box method. Do a search under chipping.

As a general guidance regarding insurance, some companies will not insure modified cars, others will add approximately 10% to the premium. Few, if any, will not load the premium at least that amount.

Officially you must notify your insurance company of ANY change from standard. The choice of whether you consider informing them or not is your decision alone - the same as it is your decision of whether you tell your dealer, as they may consider it invalidates your warranty. Some do some don't. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.
