S/C RRS and FFRR's hayday is yet to come!

There is an item in this week's autocar (page 23) predicting that the days of diesel engined cars are numbered, especially in small cars where torque isn't as important as it is in SUV's and larger cars.
Basically in 2010 there will be new emisiions regulations that mean that manufacturers will hAave to add so much technology and redesign their diesel engines that will strangle the power output of smaller diesels thus making them very expensive to make and also making them less fuel efficient.
Apparrently petrol engines are now becoming so efficient and emissions are so much lower that the next generation of compression/ignition GASOLINE engines (yes you read that correctly, diesel engines running on petrol) will be even more efficient than the current diesels. The only vehicles that will benefit from a diesel engine will be big heavy vehicles where loads of torque is important.
To me this makes it sound like compression/ignition engines running on petrol might be rather gutless.

If anybody wants to read the item I can scan it an post it in the gallery. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
