As rrsjo said, but if it is really loud it could be an air leak in the inlet pipes somewhere some of my Previous cars

Completely normal - I believe it is the air being ejected when the turbo isnt spining...

Normal unless really loud - the turbo will still be spinning (and therefore boosting) when you lift off. The ECU will know this and open the wastegate to "bleed off" excess boost pressure Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support! |

I owned a FFRR TD6 for a couple of months. The experience started badly as during the drive home from the dealer in Carlisle I took a route home over my favourite road, the Hartside Pass. As the vehicle reached the top of the hill the engine suddenly lost most of its power, made a horrendous noise and started blowing blarge black plumes of smoke out the exhaust. I thought I had just trashed the engine on the most expensive car (by far) I had ever bought ! There was no phone signal up there, so I free wheeled the vehicle down to Alston (a 4 mile free wheel with no power steering) and parked up in the local petrol station. There I rang Land Rover Assist and suffered an hour of jaunts from the petrol station owner and a couple of his mates (who all drove 20 year old land rovers or Jap 4x4's). LR Assist duly turned up and in seconds diagnosed the fault as the turbo inlet pipe having fallen off. It was refitted in seconds and normal business was resumed. Apparently without the turbo working there is a huge drop in power, the engine overfuels and as a result creates lots of smoke and noise. So if you had an air leak in your turbo piping somewhere, it would manifest itself in a lot more than a whistle. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I ran a TD6 for 2 years RRUK and can confirm there is nothing odd about this little whistle and it is indeed the "waste-gate" of the turbo dumping excess prssure on a trailing throttle. It was one of the few things that spoiled the car in my view - it was quite audible and often passengers would remark that they thought something was wrong. I think it is a charactistoc of the BMW engine 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

i think it sounds quite good.. specially in underground car parks! the 530d i had a couple of weeks ago, had a very high pitched whistle, which was clearly audible with the windows down.. |
