ivery may know

has any decision been made regarding the Aussie ketch the falie?

in case you have not got clue as to what i am on about, she is an "aussie" tall ship 84 years old. she is in port in Adelaide south oz. Built in the dutch port of "Maassluis" in 1919.

She is in for major hull plating and has been taken out of service and all bookings canceled as the corrosion is so bad.

Is she going to be repaired at a cost of 1.3million Australian dollars?

or be turned into an office or information center?

is she being incorporated into the school curriculum?

sorry but i am an tall ship and naval nerd. Very Happy

if you do not have a clue turn this thread into smut and humour and forget i asked Thumbs Up no regrets!

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Pussy, do you know what has happened to the SV Carrick previously called the City of Adelaide. She was part of the Scottish Maritime Museum but they ran out of money to restore her. She is no longer at her berth at Irvine and I haven't read anything about her being sold for scrap or towage - at one stage she was going to be bought by the City of Adelaide in Aus and taken out there. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced

This was all that I could find.................... I asked because she used to be the clubhouse for the RNVR Scotland and was moored up on a berth in the city of Glasgow until she sank for a 2nd time and couldn't be insured and the club couldn't afford to maintain her. She was an historic ship as one of the fastest WOOL clippers on the Australian trades. She was moored at Greenock for many years as a training hulk for the RN until the RNVR took her over and towed up the river where she lay and slowly rotted away. Must have been low tide when I drove passed recently and couldn't see her then if she is still there!

I am waiting for the editor of "Traditional Boats and Tall Ships" to get back to me, it is annoying when you think she was put in such regard as the Victory, SS Great Britain and the Cutty Sark!

That sounds like one of the guest publications on Have I Got News For You Wink I knew all about train/plane spotters but not tall ship spotters. Actually, in the little village opposite Shmoogle Towers in Cornwall there is a boatyard that appears to do tall ship renovations - they "floated one off" last year while we were there.

Pussy re the Falie

All I have found out so far is that the entity managing the Falie has applied for corporate deregistration.

I'll make more inquiries in the morning
cheers

No, I'm sorry - I didn't get any. I just remember thinking ignorantly, "ooh, that's just like off the Onedin Line!". Looked good though... they launched into the estuary and when we came back later that evening it had gone. Someone from the one of the village shops said it was going to be used for those uhmm... I forget the name of them, where they have a bunch of kids on board for a week doing the outward bounds certificate or something. There's another one in dock now, that looks like they haven't started on it....

I found this though, which is what I'm talking about (not sure if it's the same ship or not, but it's the place):

stunning piccy thank you.
It is such a little talked about subject and the craftsmanship is amazing. We have been to Charles town a couple of times and have been over the ships and in the museum. The ships their were used for the filming of Jason and the Argonauts and up the river Fal is a small creek, they do some of the filming for Horn blower, so we were told by a guide.

Bucklers Hard is a fantastic place too. The Victory and the starling are reputed to have been built their. The docks are indentations in the estuary bank and the village runs in two parallel lines either side of the docks. It has if my memory serves me right a locket of Nelsons baby hair and his infant clothing tucked safely in the museum.

sorry getting Nerdy.

thanks though Shmoogle. Thumbs Up no regrets!

Bucklers Hard is too small for the Victory to be built there but some of Nelson's earlier commands were built there. The largest ships built there were about 68 guns, big but not the size of Victory.

I love Bucklers Hard, many happy childhood memories sailing there! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
