Found out today that I can get 7.9 miles at 80mph out of the fuel tank from when it reads 'Range 0 miles'. I zeroed the trip-computer when it reached 0 miles on the motorway as I could see it would be a fair way to the next pump.

Only just made it however and I actually ran out of fuel on the approach to the services and cruised down a hill up to the pump in neutral. BTW I did have a jerry can of diesel in reserve so I knew I wouldn't be stranded if I hadn't made it to the garage. Car started fine as soon as it was filled.

Never run a diesel tank completely dry.................................. priming the fuel system requires a visit to the dealer and can damage the fuel pump.
