I'm not flogging a dead horse here... but at the end of the day, this is Martin's site and it's not for any of us to determine what the rules should be.

- The £5 for a "subscribers only" forum idea seems to work well on other forum sites and maybe is worth investigating for use here. There would limited membership though - not everyone is going to pay £5. There may be a 1000 members here, but there's only a small percentage of that 1000 that ever post regularly.

- This is probably the same reason why only 13 people have voted on this topic. It's the same crowd, which is liable to happen in any forum but shouldn't be taken as an indication of apathy from the entire membership.

- If members complain about forum content, it is our duty to take those complaints seriously and not dismiss them out of hand.

The banter is a good thing and for a lot of members is the main reason why they use the site so regularly but we do need to mindful of not isolating new members.

I do think you are right about new members thought, it must seem like right den of lions when they first clock on to an off topic and see everyone slagging everyone else off or taking the pxxx, but i suppose like ivery you can just join in and get the pxxx taken out of you,(and give it back) so it works both ways

Right, first of all my kids all left home many years ago ( and before you suggest it, no I didn't drive them out),

What makes you think I have complained. If I had wanted to do that I would have done it through Martin using the proper procedure. I haven't suggested banning the banter either. Why should I when I enjoy reading most of it.

What I have offered is a couple of opinions. The first being that some of the banter deteriorates into what can only be described as personal insults and insinuations about individuals not taking part in the banter (see page 7 FFRR - arrive Friday. Doc has replied that he is not offended but my opinion was that his wife may not be so forgiving! My second opinion was that a forum containing this DETERIORATED form of banter is not going to be something Land Rover would want to be associated with. Others have pointed out that the same comment would apply to potential site sponsors as well.

We are all entitled to our opinions - but please don't distort mine.  Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

I don’t believe rrsjo was personally complaining ,and fully respect his opinions and views .
as was said he was just pointing out that some people may view our comments as being somewhat near the knuckle at times and could have an adverse effect on potential sponsors and management from land rover , who im sure are people who live in the real world and view the comments exactly as they are meant to be
as we are all well aware . site sponsors will be looking to maximise any investment made in this forum, and
I don’t personally believe for one second that a few adult comments aimed at individuals on this site (myself included) will have any effect whatsoever
it shows that we are human and do have a sense of humour
If I felt I was offending anyone I would cease and apologise without question ,and i know the other members would do so too ,
We are like minded individuals and give as good as we get , and as far as children reading our posts ! I agree that pictures could offend young children but cant understand why kids would be interested or bothered to read through some of the posts on here ? I’m sure they would be more interested in something more their age .
As doc has stated the comments we make at each other are totally tongue in cheek and it’s would be a sad world if we all took every comments to heart ,
Maybe the people in this world today should have the courage to lighten up and enjoy life instead of trying to blow each other up etc

I totally understand how martin may feel !as this is his baby, he has made this fantastic forum work and the site is invaluable to the passionate land rover owners or prospective owners and full of the questions and remedies we need answering and the moderators are credit to moderating
I look through all the posts made on here for information regarding the rrs and if I feel I may have the answer to a question/remedy ! then I will post a reply
And obviously if I don’t have the technical knowledge /experience etc then not much point
I like many on here I look forward to coming back from a hard day at work and to put my feet up, look through the posts for any relevant information and have a bit of a laugh
some members point out that some of the posts are totally irrelevant ? but i thought that is the whole idea of the off topic section ? we just air our views in an off topic mannner , we dont intentionaly mean to offend anyone . and i think the more mature members amongst us can see that
I think without the banter the site would possibly turn into a technical reference point something like an encyclopaedia

But then again what would I know ? Im just a thick northerner
