United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
My TDV8 Sport - first 1k miles

for all of those interested or those lucky enough to have one on order and wonder if it will be worth it..

Just hit 1000 miles in my TDV8 Sport - boy how quick they came around!
Having conviced my wife some months ago that the upgrade from my TDV6 was going to be "worthwhile" and "long term would make a difference" and "i promise I wont want a new M3"... even she is enjoying "running" it in, she wasnt bothered with the tdv6.

The power is effortless, the V8 perfect - the Logic 7 stereo is hardly used - and surprisingly not filling it up as much as i thought i would be. Smile
I went for privacy glass, colour coded side vents and mirrors this time, which really finishes the car off - Oh and I only just realised the Brembo Calipers are Silver, small detail but looks cool..with Java
My next project will be to have the car Chipped, Am sick of waiting for JE to get back to me so I suspect TC will be the boys to carry it out as I have heard good reports on the work they do... I think it deserves it!

All positive and no buyers remorse whatsoever Cool Something else is always something better:

Bish I read somewhere recently that LR is slowly waking up to the fact that many folks in the USA would buy a diesel engined product if it were offered and they are working on retro-engineering the engines to work with high sulphur diesel - the problem you guys have is that your diesel knackers modern European engines designed to run on low sulphur fuels and biodiesels 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Didn't know that Thumbs Up Is this because diesel "history" in the USA is as pretty much an industrial fuel?

There's that Shmoogle and also the fact that a certain state on the west coast is forcing makers to sell more fuel efficient vehicles. But there is still a huge body of folks in the USA that thinks that big diesel engines only belong in big "semis" - remember a "truck" in the USA is another name for a Range Rover! They'd have to prove the mod was the cause of any problem and that is very unlikely.... it's a long-running argument. I wouldn't say the risk is large enough to stop you from getting it chipped.

Tim,
Actually all diesel sold here from last October has to be 'low sulphur'. Ours is no more than 15 ppm, whereas I think the Euro blend is about 6 ppm. Regardless it's better than the >200 ppm that we had prior to 10/'06!!

There is a very large push for modern diesel engines here, as they are perfect for the vehicles sold here for the most part, as well as the way most people drive them; i.e. torque is king here as there aren't that many opportunities to wind a car out, hence torque more useful than hp. Plus the economy benefits are huge since diesels get about 30% better fuel economy than an equivilent petrol engined vehicle.

As for why diesel isn't more in the mainstream here, it's a combination of the crappy diesel we used to have, (re: high sulphur content); very cheap petrol historically, poor diesel availability, and lastly, the memory of how GM 'screwed the pooch' re: their awful converted gasoline V8 engines in the '70's that were probably the worst 'diesel' engines ever; (it's taken a long time for people to forget/forgive that travesty).

Personally I think that in 5 years, especially as US 'gas' prices have risen, the modern turbo-diesel will become extremely popular.
