Ditto your comments re time taken to resolve special delivery issues. It can take a very long time to get compensation out... my wife returned something once from an online purchase that she decided she didn't want to keep. Was advised by supplier to send special delivery - package never got there. At least it didn't show in the system as delivered which made the claim easier, but even so it took around 8 weeks for Royal Mail to decide they would compensate... obviously awkward as supplier wouldn't provide refund without the returned goods.

You'll have to use couriers. There are plenty that don't need trading accounts and you can use over the net on a per-parcel basis. Just search on "courier" and "next day delivery" on www.google.co.uk
