Tim in Scotland has posted some fantastic fuel economy figures for his TDV8, but a lot of his driving is long motorway journeys.

Had mine re-mapped by D-tech and now get 25mpg (running around, not long journeys) as opposed to nearer 22/23 average.

My average is not representative If I have to go into London then the car sits at the airport and I let the plane take the strain! I regularly do Central Scotland to The New Forest and while I generally sit at the the speed limit I do enjoy having a blast where the traffic conditions permit. On those runs I am getting around 28-30 mpg although I have had nearly 34 on one occassion. There are folks on here that seem to be able to get that all the time but not me In day to day driving (I don't commute in my v8, I generally fly to work!) I am getting between 24 and 28 mpg depending on how hard I drive the beast. Considering the car weighs in at almost 3 tonnes I think that is pretty good but I'm sure that an X5, being somewhat lighter, will be a little more economical in stop start commutering. One thing I rarely do is use the command shift/tipronic for pressing on - don't know how much difference it makes except that on the local roads the torque of the V8 compared to the V6 means that it is into 6th gear much sooner 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have done just 4500km and have an average of 10.6l/100km for mainly city driving which I think is great for the TDV8. So I am very happy as this is better than the BMW545i I had before this. Steve |

Yeah but he was using reverse gear Belgium. I love it. The only place in Europe where the drivers are so bad they have to light the entire motorway network! (Sorry! ) TDV8 with optional dog. |
