SatNav on the move, dealer uncooperative...

I know of the 1791 trick, but was hoping to get the dealer to remove the block on the system so that the sat nav could be used on the move.

He alleged that it was over 2 hours work and needed to charge me over 300 pounds (main dealer in Essex).

Anyway, I'm going to fish out the contact I found at Land Rover who said it should be done as a matter of course, but I don't know if he will go as far as asking the dealer to do what is right.

Is there a way I can do this myself?

Thanks in advance...

You cannot do it yourself as it's an upgrade to the SatNav system. It's not anything that should be done by default and free of charge, that's for sure.. it's not like it's a recall. You may find a friendly dealer might do it whilst your car is also in for a service, for example... but don't be surprised that they charge you if you ask for it to be done in isolation. Smile

Well, the proposed bill for the current work (non warranty) is just shy of 3000 pounds so you think they may have though about that. Its been an awfully painful experience dealing with them, so today we are going to cancel all the jobs that are not warranty related and look for an independent dealer. 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Did you just buy this car? How come you're then having to spend 3k on it in aftersales? If the windows are costing £300 to replace what else is being done? Confused

Depending on where in London you are (you mentioned Essex so maybe the wrong side), forum sponsor Charles Hurst LR are in Park Royal and would doubtless be pleased to take on the work. While they are still a main dealer, they will quote you a discounted price for whatever you need to have done.

No no the Sat Nav upgrade was 300 pounds....the glass is about 2400 pounds, and then the phantom factory kit was another 300 (then went up to 700).

The BTooth kit was amusing, I cannot recall how many phone calls and assurances they made to us that this was original, factory, and would have all the functionality of a normal new kit...well it was all a pack of lies... 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Sat Nav upgrade is just putting the latest disc in isn't it?
- Thats what I did. I bought it on ebay for £60 or something. Chucked it in. Firmware upgraded. All good.

That should fix nav on the go. 2022 P440e AB

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Why are the dealers quoting £300 for a satnav upgrade? Most folks here who have had it done appear to have been charged around £100, basically the labour charge (what labour is involved in downloading a file to an ECU?) for the job, so how do the service agents arrive at £300.

Regarding your replacement windows have you tried asking Autoglass or a windscreen replacement company to quote - most dealers farm the job out anyway and don't do it in house and then the dealer charges you their labour rates for something they have paid a commercial rate to a subcontractor for............................ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Because they are not very honest I suppose?

I will try actually, they farm out the BTooth installation anyway, so why not try a windscreen company. My only worry was when years ago I had a side window smashed in the people from Autoglass ruined the door trim to get the door panel out. When I complained they denied even having done the job... 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Yup, its not for me...also I think it makes the car look big and heavy. Lastly being a biker (ex now) I always look over my shoulder before turning, and the glass makes it difficult to spot things through the rear windows...

Personal issue really...even my QP had privacy glass but the Exeter dealer charged me 500 to change all those windows. Its one of those fashions that I will never understand... 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Sat Nav working on the move? You mean being able to punch in addresses? Mine can do that, the TV picture just cuts off when on the move

Not even that. Just get a newer disc and stick it in the DVD player. Screen goes white for a while. Then the firmware gets updated (you see the progress on the screen), and then starts working again.....

You can even put your old NAV disc in. It still works. I checked that out for Jayman.

Now, I am assuming that as the newer disc upgrades the firmware, that also enables Nav on the move. I think that is a fair assumption. 2022 P440e AB

The older RRSs never used to be able to do it, Jonny... as soon as you started to move, the buttons all greyed out Very Happy
