To right Kaine same here can't see us saying not gonna buy that the tax is to hight. All that will happen you'll just build the tax in to the price just like when a manufacter puts the price up by say 2% what can you do about the Censored all you do is just add it in to the price RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

am i right in saying the following... car tax will only increase on cars purchased from 09/10.

ie. the registration date of my S/C is before 23/03/06 therefore i pay £210. if the registration date of an S/C is after 23/03/08 (and before 09/10) it will cost £400, after 09/10 it will be £440, and after 2010/11 £455

or, is it any car that falls into band M will pay £440... regardless of its registration date RRS First Edition S/C, Vesuvius Orange, Rear Entertainment, Alpine TUE-T200DV, Stormer Alloys. (+ 19" MTR's for playing in the snow!)

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

I have an idea, come next march I will cash in my VEL and buy another 12 months of VEL before the price hike by the government. Could save quiet a nice bit of cash this way and avoid the tax man getting more of my hard earned cash.

Thing is that when the new bands of tax come in most users will just add the amount to the cost of the car and end up spreading the payment through what ever finance plan they are using to pay for there car / 4 x 4.

The other issue as someone who runs a business is that all I will do is slightly increase my prices to reflect the increased operating costs associated with running my business and use this to offset the cost of owning my Range Rover Sport.

The people I feel most sorry for are the owners of 90's and 110's I live in rural Somerset and in my community a 4 x 4 is an essential bit of kit for many to be able to lead a normal life, in many villages public transport is not really an option if you work.

The vast majority of 4 x 4 owners are going to end up paying the price for a leftie government who drive around in there 4 x 4's tax free.

Government owned and operated vehicles are exempt from road tax, the same applies to police, fire and ambulance so the price of vel won't effect cars owned by the Government Car Service Fleet of minsters limos and the various special branch range rovers which escort them around the London.

On a recent trip to London last week, I watched a convoy of police and various range rovers an a Jag travel the short distance from Downing Street to the House of Commons, now talk about pollution and there is the PM and his people causing pollution.

As usual it's a double standard - one rule for the suits and one rule for us. These poor MPs are going to go even further through the mill once this expenses list gets published. I must admit I was completely unaware that we were paying for things like kitchen refits in their second homes. Unbelievable.... I though contracting was a gravy train, being an MP is the whole damn Sunday roast Shocked

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

As the Budget always falls in March, I surrendered the remaining month of both my cars road fund license on 29 February and purchased new 12 month licenses for £300 a piece. Besides not having to pay the £400 duty this year (saving nearly £200), I will delay all future increases by 12 months.

The DVLA office didn't like it but as I pointed out to them, where in the rules does it say anyone cannot do this. You are permitted to surrender a license and obtain a refund, you can purchase a new one and if the dates are consecutive then you don't have to declare a SORN. Two short forms to fill in - job done. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

No Government would have the 'Ed Balls' to restrict the import of cars to below XXXg CO2/km as that would be the final straw for the 'Big Brother controls everything' rant which goes on frequently.

These pr Censored ks want to have all the trappings of a well paid job and that includes being driven around in big Jag's and alike.

The funniest thing is what was mentioned before and that this new taxation system is based on CO2 emmissions and all the Porsches/Astons/Bentleys/Big Mercs/BM's/Audis etc etc.. will be hammered and all contribute to the hit on the environment but they are never targets.

eg FFRR S/C = 376g/km CO2
Bentley Conti GT = 396g/km
Audi R8 = 349g/km
BMW M5 = 357g/km
Fezza F430 = 420g/km

The list goes on..

The best thing is the Lexus hybrids. The LS600h CLAIMS to put out just 219g/km and ave on combined cycle 30.4mpg - ABSOLUTE BO Censored KS!!!!!

Autocar tested this at the end of last year and from memory it barely scraped into the low 20's! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

ST, the only time that the hybrid cars are any less polluting/ gas guzzling than any other vehicle is in town driving when they switch to the electric back up. If you only drive on the motorways or fast A roads then you get nothing back because they have to rely on their usually underpowered petrol engines to drag along the bulk of all those batteries.
I live in an area where there are a lot of retired folks and a few of them bought Prius's when the curent version came on the market 3-4 years ago - several of them have gone back to driving Honda Jazzes and Civics because they reckon they are cheaper to buy and run at the end of the day. In a rural area like this they gained no benefit from the hybrid whatsoever because they had to run most of the time on a weedy little petrol engine. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW
