How long do points remain on your driving licence?

Is it 3 years for insurance purposes and 4 years before you can have them removed?  Java Black TDV6 HSE - Java Grandes Marques 1/18 - Ducati 749s

I thought it was three years on your record - not sure though I have been clean a while now ....

Where did you get done and what were the scores?

Im clean as a whistle (dont know how as I was caught doing 96 in my M3, which is why I got rid of it!!!), but my dad just been on the phone as he has totted up 9 points in his work van!!!

He was asking as he thinks 3 of his points are due to be removed in June but he thinks as I did that they were only on for 3 years.

I just come accross this statement on the DVLA site;

To signify a disqualification under 'totting-up' procedure. If the total of penalty points reaches 12 or more within three years, the driver is liable to be disqualified

Ah ok - so that suggests on for 3 but off in 4? I only recalled the on for three bit

I think they are active for 3 years, but remain on your license for 4. I've just moved house and therefore got a new license... it went with 6 points on it and came back with only 3 - the first 3 points were scored in 2003, so they have now been removed. My other 3 points were from 2004, so aren't active any longer but are still on my license.

I got all of those whilst I had my M3 too

Points are valid for 3 years but cannot be removed from your license until after the fourth year - crazy.
Most insurance companies require you to declare all motoring offences including points and bans for a period of 5 years - crazy again.
