RRS 2.7 V6

I am new to this site and would appreciate some honest advise regarding the following.
I currently drive an Audi A4 3.0 tdi quattro Avant which I have had since new in March 06.I am very much wanting to purchase a used RRS 2.7 V6 to replace the Audi but to be honest am a little concerned after reading various posts on this site regarding Reliability and after owning a freelander 5 years ago also a bit worried about possible built quality issues.
I would really appreciate an honest opinion from a sport owner who has possibly had an Audi or similar so has been able to compare the two vehicles.
The Audi has been extremely pleasing so am a little worried about Buying a car that may not live up to its superb image.
Thanks in advance to all replies.

Hi Rob,

Just switched from a TDV6 HSE to an A6 Allroad (as of Friday just gone). My RRS was fault free over 15 months ownership - I think 'quality' issues are not such a big issue imho. Having said that, I must admit getting back into an AUDI is a great feeling - the RRS does lack that 'quality' feel you get from the German manufacturers (sorry everyone Embarassed )

Hi Kaine
Thanks for your reply.
How did you find the running costs and performance of your RR ?, its another issue that concerns me from what I have read in the press.

performance was fine for me - it wasn't quick, but then I tended to cruise in the RRS. I averaged around 26-27mpg over 15k miles

Hi Rob,

Prior to buying my RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE last June I had owned 2 Audi A4 S line Avants and 2 Mk IV Golf Gti's prior to them. I can honestly say I have not regretted the change in the slightest. I don't really agree that the RRS suffers on the build quality compared to the Audi. To be honest I found that the Audi looked high quality on the surface but when you looked a bit deeper some of the plastics (generally on exterior details) were actually pretty cheap ( Rear spoiler on Avant for example is wafer thin and easily damaged by carwash or your local vandal). I think if you go for the High spec RRS such as the HSE then the leather makes a big difference. Versions with cloth seats really don't cut the mustard and the seats actually don't seem to be as supportive as the ones used for the leather. On the economy issues - I get an average of 27.6 mpg and I have driven 14,000 miles in the car since June 07 without any real issues. The practicality of the car comapred to the Audi A4 Avant is just simply in a different league. With the rear seats down it has a huge carrying capacity. My Audis were also both Quattro 4 wheel drive but again - there is just no comaprison between them and the RRS (It's in a different league). I also don't find that I miss the general sporty handling of the Audi either as the RRS has amazing road manners for such a big heavy car and loves to be thrown through the bends! I certainly won't be going back to Audi (Especially if they don't do something with awful styling of there big lump of a 4x4 the Q7). Of course this is all only my own subjective opinion but I hope it helps with your question.

Germany

Hi Rob, before the TDV8 i had a Q7 S-line, which was a fantastic car, the wife did'nt like it because of it's size. The main differences I believe between Audi and RRS is the interior's and gadgets. The Audi had the MMI system similar to BMW's i-drive so it was up on the tech spec there, but you have to pay for it of course, the interior of the Audi, i.e leather seats and switchgear, is of the same quality of the RRS, however, I believe the RRS wears far better, with the RRS I don't worry about all the kids and dog jumping in after we've just trudged round the woods, because I know the leather is upto it and it cleans up with no problems. As for reliability issues, all I can say is what car does'nt! I had problems with the Audi. The main difference for me is aftercare. With Audi you get nothing, with Land Rover you get world wide assist, and for me living Germany thats important. A couple of years ago I had one of the first Disco 3's, it had a failure of the air suspension, called the LR assist line and they had someone with me in 30 mins. The disco was recoverd to local LR dealer and I was taken to the nearest hire car centre and provide with suitable transport whilst the Disco was being fixed. I would go to a couple of dealers and drive two or three cars of different ages so you get a feel for the car, I would suggest that if you do opt for a RRS you ensure it's a model with Dynamic pack. Speed Limits! not where I live!

Did have: RRS TDV8 2008.5MY
Did have: Q7 3.0TDi S-Line/Tech/Comms pack

to be honest, personally I love the 'feeling' of the RRS - I mean the great feeling you get from owning and driving one - they're not high luxury or have the latest technology in them but they definetely give you the feel good factor.

The AUDI's, BMW's, Merc's etc may by faster, better built and cheaper however they dont generate the same wow factor that the RRS creates during ownership - this is something LandRover have over the competition imo.

Heart says RRS or FFRR, head says AUDI, BMW, Merc etc etc - personally I go through cycles from year to year, however am so glad I owned the RRS over the last year

I highly recommend getting one and enjoying the experience
