2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Newbie say hi and first problem

Hi Folks,

I picked up my first 4x4 yesterday. Details are:

2005 '55 TDV6 RRS HSE
Java Black with Alpaca leather interior
Options: Sat Nav, 20" Alloys (stormer i think), side steps, privacy glass

First impressions:

I recently bought a 3.0 Z4, but it was far too intense a ride and was pummelling my back. So my #1 requirement was comfort, and boy does this car satisfy that. I'm really impressed with the seats and just how smooth the ride is. As much as i love power and speed, in the RRS i'm more than happy to just chill out and go with the flow. Plus i don't think it's too much of a slouch, the power delivery is smooth (i've never driven a diesel before so i'm sure it has something to do with the extra torque) and you're up to a good speed without really noticing.

So moving onto my first problem...

I'd been driving the RRS all day without any problems and then later in the night i suddenly started seeing smoke coming out from under the bonnet by the front headlight on the passenger side (RRS is RHD). There was also an intense burning smell. There were no warning lights on the dashboard.

I pulled over and opened the bonnet and smoke just oozed out. My friend's and I decided that it was most likely some fluid that had hit a hot engine and started burning. So i moved off again and no problems until the same thing happened about 4 hours later.

Has anybody come across this before? I know that there are a lot of fluid reservoirs in that corner of the engine bay.

Thanks in advance.

gadgetJunky 72.

It's not a problem - it is your FBH, it was cold last night. Do a search for FBH and you'll see what it's for. Seems your car is 100% ok! Thumbs Up

Don't worry, this has caught out quite a few people (Except Tim...wonder why that was?)

I think it is if weather drops below a certain temp (3degC?) it will kick in.

No doubt i'll get corrected. You'll get used to that on here! Laughing Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

hi,

thanks for the quick responses.

I'm sooooo happy it's not a problem. it would have really sucked to take it back to the dealer. so I'm going to spend the rest of the day driving round with a smile on my face and trying my best to negotiate the numerous obstacles in London.

i'm sure there'll be a few more newbie questions on the way, but hopefully i'll be able to contribute to the forum too.

i'll try and get some photos up when i get a chance.

Yes, some earlier models (including Tim's) were not fitted with the FFBH and subsequently LR issued a bulletin in early 2006 advising dealers to retro-install this heater upon customer complaint...
