Amazon - sometimes its just pointless

Before xmas I helped my Mother order 10 books from Amazon - only 6/10 were delivered - the remaining 4 became out of stock about 4 days after paying

I then ordered a couple of presents for my wife - both in stock until a few days later - only 1 delivered

Then Wednesday I ordered a new MB Crash Helmet from them (good price) - again it was showing in stock, however this evening I get another 'We're sorry, but.........' email from them

Clearly all the listings shown were from a third party, however its bloody annoying. In my recent experience its becoming very unreliable

Amazon was brilliant for me buying a last minute Xmas present. Ordered it in November from Tesco and a week before Xmas day I had an email from them saying it would be delivered on Boxing day. I cancelled my order from them and ordered it from Amazon, and it arrived on time. 2002 Discovery Adventurer LE

Andy,

I've bought a lot of stuff via Amazon over the years, however recently they seem to be turning into pot luck in my experience. It highlights the biggest problem with internet shopping - just not enough shops actually manage their stock online correctly

We ordered an iPod from Amazon about 2 weeks before Christmas and it was dispatched and due to arrive the Friday before Christmas. But it never arrived Sad
However, I'm not blaming Amazon, I'm blaming some thieving scum-bag at the Post Office Evil or Very Mad
We have had so many things go missing recently, that it simply cannot be coincidence.
IMO there are some bad apples in the Post Office and they need getting rid of.

I agree, we lost our usual postman early last year as he was caught stealing mail and parcels. Apparently it had been going on for over a year and he admitted selling most of the items he stole at car boot's - he was jailed for 6 months. We have only just got a new permanent postman, up until about November we seemed to have a different post man/woman every day.

We've had the same problem. Had a birthday card from my wife's sister which she had sellotaped closed cos the sticky was crap. Nowt in it other than a thick card. By the time it arrived some theiving Sh Censored t bag had used a scapel blade to cut the tape to open it and resealed it cos there was nowt inside. Told the post office, but they didn't seem to care.

Sorry if anyone works for the Royal Mail.............but next time they go on strike they should just sack them Exclamation
My mate's brother is a postie......he says they love a couple of days strike so that there is a big build up, so that the post office will then pay them double time to clear the back log. Banging Head TDV6 - gone

The post office is a bit dodgy. We had an ink cartridge stolen not so long back. We bought 2, the cheeky Censored opened the packaging, stole one and posted the other one with the packaging obviously tampered with! 2002 Discovery Adventurer LE

Always check on Amazon who the actual seller is - it's impossible to filter out the 3rd party sellers ("Amazon Marketplace") and they can be very unreliable. I've found Amazon themselves to be absolutely excellent. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I find they only really have delays when they are out of stock or if their indicator says 'last one - hurry' - their computer system was probably a bit behind on the actual stock level with the xmas rush etc.

I always use the marketplace in these instances - marketplace purchases are almost always faster than amazon themselves - you just have to pick ones with good feedback/ones you recognise having given good service before.

I needed to send a friend some large data extracts (no - not Child Benefit records!) - so I wrote them on a DVD, put them in a Dvd case and sent them as "Signed For" delivery.

They arrived and he duly signed for them - and then phoned me as to why I had sent him some broken inkjet cartridges.

I asked him to look at the envelope - the staplesalong the seam had been neatly removed - therefore someone in the Post Office system had felt a DVD shaped object, opened the package and replaced the items with junk and sellotaped it down.

I just hope they enjoyed the unreadable crap DVD they got for their efforts!

This is going back some years now, but a friend of mine did some time in a sorting office between leaving school and starting Uni to earn a few beer tokens and he said there wasn't a day went by when sorting staff would go through all the post and pretty much take what they wanted. There'd also be idiots who made a point of damaging parcels that had "fragile" stickers on.

I hope it's not still like that, but I wouldn't be holding my breath.... Confused

Part of my brief from my last employer was to set up numberplate recognition systems and the PO was one of my customers. there was a pilot system installed at one sorting office and it was routinely attacked, cameras sprayed, knocked off the walls etc. it got so bad that the company would no longer support it with them. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh
