Is there a "Feature" that dims the SatNav screen? For example for night driving.
I'm asking because my screen sometimes dims itself for no apparant reason
and I'm not sure if it's because it's faulty or perhaps there is some feature - such
as a sensor as used for Auto Headlights - that maybe dims the screen in low light

I seem to remember that there is a light sensor which detects low light and dims the screen accordingly. It used to happen on mine too....

Mine dims OK but the rear view mirror sensor seems to have a mind of it's own at the moment - sometimes it fades to green and sometimes it can't be ar ed which is a pain with all these idiots on the roads who insist on driving round in clear weather with their badly adjusted front fog lights on.................... rant over! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Mine does this as well and I think it has just become an issue because of the "half light" conditions we are driving in (it is being discussed over on Disco3 as well).

When it is properly dark then its fine, it chooses an appropriate brightness setting

When it is dawn/dusk/streetlit mine seems to get confused and occasionally chooses a really really dim setting that I find unreadable or it fluctuates annoyingly between settings.

The sensor is between the rpm and speed indicator in the main instrument window behind the wheel....It is normal behavior.
As for the rear view mirror, the sensor is in it and it does react to all lightning (like if a reading lamp is on, it will go very dark) Range Rover Vogue ‘17 TDV6
