No idea what the A stands for, new one on me. Check the car's underside to check it hasn't been thrashed off road, check the engine bay - if it's too clean ask yourself why. Obviously check the VIN numbers match up (see earlier posts about where they are located) All in all there arn't that many things that are problematic at first glance, the problems become apparnt when you test drive it. Find a bit of road that you can jerk the steering to see if there is a knocking sound, if there is a noise go for another car. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I think the A maybe somebody trying to be smart and telling you that it is an Automatic - there is no option of a manual gearbox so they are all automatics. Also when checking it out start the engine, put it in neutral (N) and select the low ratio - it should go into low smoothly and quietly and the light on the dash should illuminate. If it takes a long time, there are strange noises or doesn't happen then the current owner has never engaged it and if you every want to use the car off road it will cost you plenty to get the transfer box fixed.
If you can get the VIN and registration from it then you can get the service/ repair history from any dealer as they are all kept on the LR system. Also check how much warranty is left to run and if any extended warranty is available.
Check if it has Brembo brakes - then it may well have the Dynamic Pack and possibly Dynamic Response - this is what can cause the knocking that VA mentions, although if it is an early car and doesn't have the DP it may have been running on huge wheels (LR only fit up to 20" as standard) and that can cause steering rack problems and knocks - wheels up to 24" have been seen fitted to RRSports. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
